Job description
Metronome is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to support AFRL’s Google Cloud Platform environment. This engineer will help build, secure, maintain, and automate the GCP infrastructure supporting internal tools, prototype applications, and secure development and testing activities.
This is a senior-level position where deep, hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience is the most important qualification. The ideal candidate will also bring strong Terraform, cloud security, and Python or Go experience., * Architect and maintain secure GCP infrastructure, including VPCs, firewalls, and Interconnects using zero-trust principles.
- Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and GitOps workflows.
- Implement GCP security controls including Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP), Workload Identity, and VPC Service Controls.
- Develop Python or Go automation for user onboarding, repository management, monitoring, and platform operations.
- Manage and harden self-hosted GitLab infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Implement infrastructure hardening and Compliance-as-Code to support DoD security and ATO requirements.
- Participate in the full SDLC, including code reviews, Merge Requests, automated testing, and deployment workflows.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience.
- Senior-level experience in SRE, cloud/platform engineering, DevOps, software engineering, or a related discipline. Successful candidates will typically have approximately 10 years of relevant experience, though there is no strict years requirement.
- Strong experience with Terraform, including modular infrastructure, GCP providers, and GCS backends.
- Experience managing cloud infrastructure through CLI, Infrastructure as Code, and automated workflows.
- Proficiency with Python or Go beyond basic scripting.
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, system architecture, reliability, and security principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent professional experience.
- Eligible to obtain or maintain required U.S. Government clearance/access.
- Must have a CAC or be able to obtain one quickly to support the program.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with GKE, Kubernetes, container hardening, GitLab, and zero-trust architectures.
- Familiarity with DoD RMF and ATO environments.
- Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Terraform Associate, Security+, CKA, or similar certification.
Certifications are preferred, not required. Strong hands-on GCP experience takes priority.
