Job description

job summary: Here is a summary of the positions job duties:

Administer and support IBM z/OS mainframe environments, including job scheduling configuration, LPAR performance, and IPL processes.

Perform daily system health checks, job monitoring, and performance tuning using tools such as Omegamon, RMF, and SMF.

Apply z/OS maintenance and upgrades using System Modification Program, ensuring changes are validated and documented.

Configure and optimize IBM Workload Manager (WLM) to enforce workload prioritization and meet service goals.

Monitor and support IBM Db2 for z/OS, including subsystem configuration, job tracking, performance tuning, and collaboration with DBAs.

Manage Hitachi mainframe-compatible storage systems, including volume allocation, data set migration, HSM policy enforcement, and storage analysis.

Implement and maintain Data Domain backup technologies and snapshot-based recovery solutions to support DR, archival, and restore processes.

Administer RACF (or equivalent) security settings, conduct access audits, enforce compliance, and support incident investigations.

Support SSL and related security protocols across mainframe subsystems to ensure secure communication and compliance with encryption standards.

Troubleshoot and resolve system and performance issues, including CPU utilization, storage bottlenecks, and misconfigured WLM policies.

Maintain and support middleware integrations with CICS, MQ, IMS, FTP, and distributed systems via TCP/IP, VTAM, and SNA.

Participate in and validate disaster recovery, backup, and restore procedures; maintain operational runbooks and documentation.

Implement and track changes through ITIL-aligned change management processes, ensuring controlled and auditable system modifications.

Support mainframe modernization and re-platforming efforts, providing expertise on system dependencies, data flows, and migration planning.

responsibilities: The Mainframe System Administrator is responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the Client’s mainframe computing environment. This role ensures availability, performance, and integrity of mission-critical systems including z/OS, subsystems like Db2, and enterprise-level monitoring and storage platforms.

The administrator supports daily operations as well as project-based activities, such as modernization initiatives or disaster recovery planning. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong hands-on experience with tools including Omegamon, Db2, IBM Workload Manager (WLM), and Hitachi Data Storage and Data Domain systems.

qualifications: Critical Success Factors

Demonstrated experience administering z/OS environments with integrated monitoring, database, and storage solutions.

Proactive performance tuning and system health oversight using tools like Omegamon and IBM WLM.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams while maintaining confidentiality and compliance standards.

Expected availability window (e.g., 8am-5pm Pacific) with flexibility outside of that for after-hours maintenance and project activities.

Responds to high-severity issues within 1-hour, routine items within same business day.

Ability to maintain high availability of mainframe systems during contract term.

Reliability and accountability in a contract-based role with minimal oversight.

Timely and secure implementation of system changes and updates.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to respond quickly to system incidents.

Strong documentation, knowledge transfer, and communication skills.

Confirm experience with Microsoft Teams and Jira ticketing system.

Regular timesheet approvals and biweekly progress updates.
