Job description

A great opportunity for a detail-oriented student interested in computer networking. We work ‘behind the scenes’ on campus to keep the wired and wireless networks humming! The successful applicant(s) will be scheduled to work during business hours (M-F, between 8AM and 4:30PM). There may be occasional weekend or evening hours. There is an opportunity to work full-time (40 hrs/week) during the summer. Responsibilities Perform routine activation and testing of network data connections. Assist in testing and installation of data cables and network devices. Fabricate, punch down and terminate cables. Test and diagnose data communication problems. Assist in maintaining network documentation. Perform site housekeeping- cable sorting, labeling, and general organization.

Requirements

Applicant must be a currently enrolled student at Oberlin College. All necessary skills will be taught in on-the-job training sessions. Some prior basic electronics knowledge is desired, but not required. Must be able to carry a weight of approximately 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in enclosed areas. Must be able to read and interpret color codes. Must write legibly, and conduct oneself properly as a representative of the Center for Information Technology. Excellent customer service experience is highly desired.
