Job description
At tarte, our technology team moves as quickly as our business does. Weβre looking for a hands-on, experienced engineer who is excited to spend time in the code, collaborate closely with our cross-functional teams, and help shape the technology behind our growing global ecommerce business. Tarte is a founder-led brand that moves fast, stays close to our customers, and adapts when new opportunities arise. Our engineering team supports a Shopify Plus platform powering a global DTC business across 50 active markets, with an ecommerce experience that is constantly evolving through product launches, influencer activations, OMS integrations, and new AI-powered capabilities. In this role, youβll be a key technical partner across our commerce ecosystem: writing code, defining architecture, solving complex technical challenges, and bringing thoughtful solutions to the table. Youβll work directly with Product, Merchandising, Marketing, and other cross-functional partners on technical decisions that support the customer experience and drive the business forward. What Youβll Own Hands-On Technical Expertise Writing code is a core part of this role. Youβll contribute to Shopify Plus custom apps using Liquid, Node.js, and React; own and extend AWS Lambda functions that connect our OMS to the broader commerce stack; and partner with our OMS team on backend integrations across order management, fulfillment, and downstream systems. When complex technical challenges arise, youβll help evaluate the options, identify the right path forward, and bring others along by explaining the why behind technical decisions. Architecture Guidance & Team Collaboration Youβll bring strong technical judgment to architecture and development decisions across the team. Youβll review technical approaches, identify potential risks early, share best practices, and help build scalable solutions that support both our immediate needs and long-term growth. Youβll also be a resource for other engineers, sharing your experience through technical discussions, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving while helping the team continue to grow its technical capabilities. Marketing & Business Partnership You understand that great technology starts with understanding what the business is trying to accomplish. Youβll work closely with Marketing, Merchandising, Product, and other teams to understand upcoming launches, initiatives, and opportunities, then help translate those needs into thoughtful technical solutions. Youβre comfortable connecting technical decisions to business outcomes and communicating complex ideas in a way that is clear, practical, and actionable for both technical and non-technical partners. Vendor Evaluations & Platform Intelligence Youβll own technical vendor evaluations, from defining criteria and conducting assessments to providing clear, thoughtful recommendations. Youβll also stay ahead of the Shopify Plus roadmap and broader ecommerce landscape, proactively identifying platform changes, new capabilities, and opportunities that could benefit tarte. Site performance, digital accessibility, and the overall customer experience will remain top of mind as you evaluate new features and functionality. AI-First Commerce Weβre actively exploring how AI can make the way we build, test, deploy, and optimize our ecommerce experiences even smarter. Youβll contribute to AI-enabled deployment workflows, GEO and LLM product discovery, automated quality gates, and other emerging applications of AI across the commerce stack. You bring a practical and curious perspective on where AI can create meaningful value and are excited to experiment, learn, and help turn new ideas into real-world solutions.
Requirements

- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda or equivalent serverless technologies, including building, troubleshooting, and maintaining functions
- Experience architecting integrations across the commerce ecosystem, including ERP, OMS, CRM, payments, and fulfillment
- Ability to clearly communicate technical architecture and decisions to both technical and non-technical partners
- Experience mentoring and collaborating with other engineers and sharing technical knowledge across a team
- Comfortable owning vendor evaluations, including setting criteria, assessing technical capabilities, and providing recommendations
- Flexible and adaptable in your approach, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and feedback
- A solutions-oriented mindset: when the original request isnβt technically feasible, you look for creative and practical alternatives
Additional Technical Skills:
- JavaScript / TypeScript, React, and Node.js
