Job description

You will work closely with our quantitative and trading team to build the backend, execution engine, APIs, integrations, and supporting infrastructure required to operate automated trading strategies in the power markets.

The role will be highly hands-on. You will take models and signals from research and development and turn them into reliable software capable of making and executing trading decisions in live markets, initially focusing on the Danish power market and subsequently expanding across Europe.

A key part of the role will be developing the interface between our trading algorithms and market platforms such as Nord Pool, including order generation, execution, monitoring, error handling, position management, and risk controls.

As the platform develops, you will also help integrate physical assets such as BESS, ancillary service markets, forecasting models, and optimization engines into the automated trading architecture., 1. Build and maintain the automated trading execution layer

  • Turn quantitative signals and trading strategies into production-ready executable algorithms.
  • Develop the software responsible for generating, validating, submitting, modifying, and cancelling orders.
  • Build integrations with power market platforms, APIs, and other external data providers.
  • Develop robust handling of market events, API failures, connectivity issues, and unexpected conditions.
  • Ensure reliable and low-latency communication between our models, risk engine, and execution infrastructure., * Design and develop the backend architecture supporting automated power trading.
  • Build APIs and services connecting data ingestion, forecasting, strategy, optimization, risk, and execution modules.
  • Develop position, order, portfolio, and P&L management functionality.
  • Implement comprehensive logging, monitoring, alerting, and audit trails.
  • Build systems that are scalable and reliable enough for live trading.
  1. Work closely with quantitative models
  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers to integrate forecasting and trading models into production.
  • Translate research code and prototypes into robust production software.
  • Build interfaces allowing models and trading strategies to be tested, backtested, deployed, and monitored.
  • Support continuous improvement of the algorithms based on live trading results.
  1. Integrate risk management and controls
  • Implement pre-trade and post-trade risk controls.
  • Ensure trading strategies operate within defined position, volume, price, and financial limits.
  • Build automated safeguards and circuit breakers to prevent erroneous or unintended trading.
  • Develop monitoring tools to identify anomalies in models, market data, and execution., * Develop software interfaces between asset optimization, market signals, and trading execution.
  • Support trading across Day-Ahead, Intraday, and ancillary service markets.
  • Expand the platform to additional European power markets as the business grows.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python; experience with SQL and modern software development practices.
  • Experience building production-grade software, APIs, backend systems, or automated systems.
  • Understanding of software architecture, databases, version control, testing, and deployment.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and real-time data streams.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, Docker, Git, CI/CD, or similar technologies is an advantage.
  • Experience with algorithmic trading, financial markets, energy markets, or automated execution systems is a strong advantage.
  • Prior experience within the energy trading or power markets business is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Strong interest in electricity markets and willingness to develop deep expertise in power trading.
  • Comfortable working with modern AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and using AI to accelerate software development.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ownership and move quickly from concept to production.

Benefits & conditions

  • The opportunity to build an automated power trading platform from the ground up.
  • Significant technical ownership and responsibility from day one.
  • Direct impact on live trading performance and the company’s growth.
  • Exposure to power trading, quantitative strategies, BESS, ancillary services, and energy optimization.
  • The opportunity to work across the entire technology stack - from data and models to risk management and live execution.
  • A highly entrepreneurial environment with positive values and strong team spirit.
  • The opportunity to shape the technology architecture as we expand into new markets and products.
  • Highly competitive compensation with performance-based incentives aligned with long-term value creation.
