Job description
The Senior Server / Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and administering enterprise server and cloud infrastructure, leading migration of legacy on-premises workloads to AWS GovCloud, and supporting the customer’s active data center consolidation initiative., * Design, deploy, and administer Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/CentOS) systems supporting enterprise applications and services.
- Lead migration of legacy, on-premises data center workloads to AWS GovCloud as part of the customer’s data center exit initiative, including four planned data center consolidations.
- Administer VMware vSphere/vCenter environments, including capacity planning, patching, and lifecycle management of virtual infrastructure.
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and configuration management (e.g., Ansible) for repeatable, auditable deployments.
- Support Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity/access management across hybrid environments.
- Partner with security engineering to remediate vulnerabilities, apply STIG/hardening baselines, and support continuous monitoring (ConMon) activities.
- Participate in the design and testing of business disaster continuity and recovery (BDCR) solutions for critical financial and mission systems.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks for supported systems.
- Provide Tier 3 escalation support and participate in an on-call rotation for production incidents.
Requirements
Koniag IT Systems (KITS) is seeking a Senior Server / Cloud Engineer with a minimum of 8 years of experience to design, deploy, and support enterprise server and cloud infrastructure for a federal civilian customer undergoing active data center consolidation and cloud modernization. The ideal candidate has hands-on expertise in administering Windows Server and Linux environments at enterprise scale and leading migration of on-premises workloads to AWS, including GovCloud. Experience with VMware-based virtualization and infrastructure-as-code is strongly preferred., * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in server and/or cloud engineering roles
- Expert-level administration of Windows Server and Linux operating systems in an enterprise environment
- Demonstrated, hands-on experience migrating workloads to AWS (GovCloud experience strongly preferred)
- Experience with VMware virtualization (vSphere/vCenter) at enterprise scale
- Experience with Containers/Kubernetes, FinOps/cost-optimization and Zero Trust principals., * Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tooling (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)
- Strong understanding of enterprise networking, Active Directory, and identity/access management fundamentals
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce technical documentation and diagrams
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to obtain public trust clearance
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- Experience working in a federal government IT environment
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent
- Experience with data center exit/consolidation projects on a federal contract
- Experience supporting financial, loan-servicing, or capital-access application environments
- Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls and FedRAMP-authorized cloud services
