Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Cyber Defense Platform Security Engineer (Microsoft) to join our Cyber Defense team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and optimizing Microsoft’s enterprise security platforms and services to protect critical business systems, data, and operations from evolving cyber threats.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise across the Microsoft security stack, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra ID, Purview, Exchange Online, Key Vault, Azure Virtual Desktop, and related technologies. This engineer will play a critical role in strengthening the organization’s security posture through secure architecture, automation, threat detection, incident response support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office at least three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Temple, TX or Austin, TX., * Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Microsoft security solutions across Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Azure, Entra ID, Key Vault,

  • Purview, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), DNS, and related technologies to protect critical business systems and data.
  • Implement, configure, and optimize Microsoft security controls to defend against cyber threats while improving the organization’s overall security posture.
  • Develop and maintain security automation and operational efficiencies through scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce Microsoft security standards, configurations, and best practices aligned with Microsoft recommendations, NIST, ISO 27001, SOX, PCI DSS, and organizational security requirements.
  • Monitor, analyze, and investigate Microsoft security events, alerts, and threat intelligence to identify potential threats and reduce organizational risk.
  • Provide technical expertise and forensic analysis support to Incident Response teams during cybersecurity investigations and security events.
  • Partner with Vulnerability Management teams to perform security assessments, configuration reviews, and risk analyses of Microsoft environments and services.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams to design, implement, and integrate secure Microsoft technologies that support business initiatives and strategic objectives.
  • Evaluate emerging Microsoft security tools, technologies, and platform capabilities to enhance visibility, threat detection, response effectiveness, and defensive capabilities.
  • Serve as a technical authority for Microsoft security architecture, policy development, platform governance, and security standards across the enterprise.
  • Lead and support Microsoft security projects, operational support activities, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen security maturity and resilience.
  • Participate in escalated operational and security incidents, providing advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical support to restore services and mitigate risk.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience administering, securing, and supporting enterprise Microsoft cloud and security technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft security platforms and services, including:
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Exchange Online
  • Microsoft Purview
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
  • Azure Key Vault
  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
  • Microsoft Defender Security Solutions
  • Experience implementing and managing identity and access management controls, including Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and Zero Trust principles.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or Bash to streamline security operations and improve operational efficiency.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft security architecture, cloud security principles, and enterprise security best practices.
  • Experience monitoring, investigating, and responding to security alerts, incidents, and operational issues within Microsoft environments.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management, security assessments, configuration reviews, and remediation activities.
  • Strong understanding of information security frameworks and regulatory requirements, including NIST, ISO 27001, SOX, and PCI DSS.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex security challenges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to effectively partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership., + AZ-500: Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • Experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Security Copilot, Defender XDR, and security automation technologies.
  • Experience supporting incident response, threat hunting, digital forensics, and security investigations.
  • Knowledge of cloud governance, security monitoring, compliance management, and enterprise-scale Microsoft environments.
  • Experience participating in security architecture reviews, security transformation initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing cybersecurity team.
