Senior Backend Engineer

Remote SpainTEKsystems Global Services is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a Platform Engineering team supporting one of Europe’s largest retailers.This is a fully remote role based in Spain.Rather than building customer-facing applications, you’ll be developing the services, APIs, and platform capabilities that engineering teams across the business rely on every day. The focus is on creating reusable solutions that improve the way software is built, deployed, and operated at scale.What you’ll be doing:Building backend services with Kotlin, Spring Boot, and MongoDBDeveloping APIs and microservices that support internal platforms and engineering teamsWorking in a cloud-native Azure environment, including AKS, App Services, Event Hubs, and Azure MonitorAutomating deployments and infrastructure using GitHub Actions, CI/CD, and TerraformDriving best practices around observability, reliability, and developer experienceCollaborating with engineers across the organisation to ensure platform capabilities are adopted and provide real valueWe’re looking for:Strong experience with Kotlin and Spring BootExperience building microservices and distributed systemsAzure cloud experienceKnowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practicesExperience working on platform, infrastructure, or developer tooling teams is highly desirableSomeone who enjoys solving problems that impact multiple engineering teams rather than a single productAbout the teamYou’ll join a newly formed Platform Engineering Task Force that supports a variety of strategic engineering initiatives across the business.The team is focused on two things:Building shared platform capabilities that help development teams move fasterCreating space for innovation, including AI initiatives, experimentation, and proof-of-concept workTypically, around 60% of your time will be spent on platform engineering activities and 40% on innovation-focused projects.If you’re interested in platform engineering, cloud-native technologies, and building solutions that have organisation-wide impact, we’d love to speak with you.
