Job description

For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster. Engineering Manager, Identity and Access Management

The “Identity and Access Management” group -IAM- is responsible for the authentication and authorization of human and system users across our platform. These teams together ensure that all users can securely and seamlessly access the necessary resources while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of our systems.

Given the critical nature of these functions, the group operates with a paramount focus on reliability. Even minor disruptions to authentication or authorisation processes can have significant impacts on our normal operations. Therefore, the team is dedicated to building and maintaining robust, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems.

As a Team Lead within the Identity and Access Management group, you will bear technical responsibility for these vital systems. You will work in close collaboration with the other two teams in IAM, but also with other product teams and a diverse range of stakeholders across the company, ensuring that our solutions not only meet technical excellence but also align with broader business objectives and user needs. What you will do

  • Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to define and deliver the next version of Authentication and Authorization at Adyen.
  • Ensure reliability, performance and scalability; authentication and authorisation are part of Adyen’s critical flows.
  • Lead hands-on by actively coding, participating in technical discussions, code reviews, and system design to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Ensure high performance by mentoring and coaching engineers, setting a high-quality bar.
  • Foster an inspiring and inclusive team culture of ownership, autonomy, collaboration, accountability and open communication/feedback.
  • Effectively manage stakeholders throughout the company.

Requirements

  • You have 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams and delivering impactful, scalable solutions.
  • You bring a strong foundation in software engineering, with deep system design skills and hands-on experience in technologies such as Java, Postgres and Redis.
  • Reliability and scalability are priorities for you, and you have experience working with critical, high-load, distributed systems.
  • You are hands-on and collaborative, engaging deeply together with your team’s work while fostering a supportive and learning-driven environment.
  • You set a high bar and ensure your team delivers high-quality, maintainable code and solutions that scale.
  • You are a strong mentor and coach, helping your team grow while maintaining high performance and accountability.
  • You have a growth mindset, constantly learning and adopting new practices to stay ahead of industry trends.

Benefits & conditions

The annual base salary range for this role is $198,000 - $293,000. Compensation is based on factors including qualifications, experience, and location. Total compensation package includes equity (RSUs), 401(k), health, dental, vision, and more.

About the company

This role is based in our San Francisco office. We’re an office-first company and expect employees to work in-office at least 3 days a week on average. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while also supporting flexibility.

Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments

Our unique approach is a product of our diverse perspectives. This diversity of backgrounds and cultures is essential in helping us maintain our momentum. Our business and technical challenges are unique, and we need as many different voices as possible to join us in solving them - voices like yours. No matter who you are or where you’re from, we welcome you to be your true self at Adyen.
