Job description
For a client active within aviation, We are looking for a hands-on Senior (8+ years) Cloud Engineer to spearhead the modernization ofa digital services Hub. Our current infrastructure was migrated to the cloud but still relies heavily on legacy on-premise patterns. Initially, the contract will be for 6 months with an option to extend.
- Your mission is to refactor this environment into a modern, cost-efficient, and deeply observable serverless platform on GCP. You will be at the intersection of Data Analytics, Platform Engineering, and DevOps.
- By improving development experience and improving pipeline health and stability, you will eliminate operational friction so our business can effortlessly onboard new data sources and trust the data they consume.
- Responsibilities
- Pave a “Golden Path” for CI/CD using GitHub Workflows, abstracting GCP complexity so data engineers can build and deploy without fighting the infrastructure.
- Audit, optimize, and maintain the existing Terraform codebase using reusable and modular components that enforce monitoring.
- Migrate from a fragmented, custom-scripted alerting to a unified Dynatrace implementation.
- Take the team along explaining the “why” behind design choices, openly review them with the team, and pragmatically adapt your designs to align with organizational constraints and feedback.
- Optimize our existing cloud footprint by reducing spending and implementing cost-governance, ensuring that our newly observable pipelines are also financially efficient.
- Champion the use of AI assisted development with GitHub Copilot.
Requirements
- 8+ years of overall experience building, scaling, and maintaining complex systems.
- 4+ years of experience building Data Platforms or complex Cloud architectures (GCP strongly preferred).
- 3+ years of deep, hands-on experience setting up enterprise monitoring-specifically Dynatrace-to track data pipeline health, data quality, workload and infrastructure performance.
- 3+ years of writing, refactoring, and managing stateful deployments with Terraform in production. * Expert in creating GitHub Actions and Workflows.
- Deep expertise in GCP (BigQuery, GCS, IAM, Cloud Run, Networking) along with Linux, Docker, and Bash scripting.
- Certifications in Google Cloud Platform are nice to have.
- Experience managing JVM applications (ideally Spark).
Process & Mindset
- Team player with experience driving technical decisions and mentoring mid-level engineers.
- Know when to reach out to other teams for help/consultation.
- Maintain high coding standards, be proactive at code reviews, ensuring future-proof quality.
- End to end ownership and support of created solutions.
- Excellent communication skills (spoken and written English)
