Job description

This is a role for an engaged, pragmatic software developer who would enjoy creating high quality sample code and demos for a top-of-the-line 3D modelling SDK. Your role will be to show other developers how to make the most of this advanced toolkit.

Requirements

You may be a fresh graduate or PhD who is already an enthusiastic and prolific developer, or a senior engineer looking for something new. You’ll be a problem solver, able to work out how to solve client problems with the advanced tools at your disposal. You’ll be someone pragmatic, keen to create high quality code, and open minded as to programming languages. Projects may involve a range of technologies including C, C++, C#, WPF, Qt, OpenGL and DirectX.

Ultimately one of your goals is to work with colleagues who understand client needs and produce code to show them why they should bring their business to the company, and to help them when they do.

You will be a confident communicator, at ease discussing technical details with peers within your own team and with engineers from client companies. You’ll produce demos, build prototypes and examples, and show people what the SDK is capable of. This isn’t a “sales” job, since you can talk in practical terms to fellow coders, but it is about representing your company well. Another goal is to build a library of great demos, examples and solutions that you and the company can be proud of.

You’ll have a good relevant degree, commercial software development experience, and you’ll be self-motivated, confident, get on with people, build good relationships and be quick at thinking on your feet. You’ll have a strong grasp of 3D maths, particularly for geometry and trigonometry. You’ll understand spatial data structures. Core languages and tools aptitude should include: C, C++, or C#. Other desirable skills include: WPF, Qt; OpenGL, WebGL, Vulkan or DirectX; Unreal, Unity or other game engines, or CAD software experience. In terms of coding approach, you’ll like a free rein but be able to produce properly decoupled, SOLID and legible solutions.

Benefits & conditions

Key benefits: initial remote working, followed by work in a suburban location in the lively city of Sheffield, with free parking, optional international expenses-paid travel, a competitive salary, excellent pension, good prospects, mathematical work, and skills development
