Solving real-world optimisation problems in Java

This company’s software provides a highly adaptable toolset for mathematical modelling applied to complex and configurable supply-chains within the energy sector. The multitude of factors involved make this analysis extremely challenging, but the value of the transaction means that even tiny efficiency savings are lucrative. The company’s technology is therefore in high demand and they are keen to expand their team.

To join them you will need an excellent background in Mathematics with a 1st or 2.1 class degree (and perhaps a PhD) from a top university (Russell Group or overseas equivalent). You should also have either:

  • Experience in applicable mathematical techniques (for instance academic research or hands-on commercial experience in topics related to combinatoric optimisation).

And/or:

  • Demonstrably excellent software engineering skills, with great coding ability, particularly in Java (though closely similar languages may be considered). Knowledge of the Spring framework would be a bonus.

You will also need full existing right to work in the UK without time limit, restriction, or sponsorship.

This role will provide a challenging combination of maths and software engineering, creating clever solutions to challenging real-world problems. You would be joining a small and friendly organisation in a profitable and rapidly expanding market sector. They are based in a prestigious London location close to transport links. Interviews and initial work will be conducted remotely due to the COVID19 restrictions, but remote working will also be considered for the longer term.

Keywords: Mathematics, Combinatoric Optimisation, Mathematical Optimisation, Java, C++, London
