Job description

The mission of Fitness and Fandom is to create delightful discovery, browse, and search experiences that connect customers to strategic shopping programs and enable best-in-class experiences for Sports fans worldwide. Our Licensed Sports program aims to build a cohesive experience where fans feel understood by Amazon - with relevant, timely, and delightful experiences that connect them to their passions, celebrating every moment, emotion, and milestone across leagues, teams, and global sporting events.

We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to drive the technical vision and delivery of our Licensed Sports fan experience - building the systems that power end-to-end fan shopping across NFL, NCAA, MLB, NBA, NHL, International Soccer, F1, and emerging leagues. You will help make Amazon the premier licensed sports shopping destination by designing and building scalable, AI-powered systems that deliver personalized, event-driven experiences to millions of fans.

As a Senior SDE, you will own the architecture and technical direction for critical fan experience systems. You will partner closely with product, applied science, design, and business teams to translate ambitious product strategies into robust, production-grade solutions. You will set the technical bar for the team, mentor engineers, and drive operational excellence across services that handle high-traffic sporting events and real-time customer experiences.

Key job responsibilities

  • Fan CX Platform Architecture: Design and build the backend systems and APIs that power the Licensed Sports Fan Shop, including fan-first browse, discovery, and personalization services driven by Sports Profiles, event-driven content pipelines, and AI/ML-powered ranking and recommendations.

  • AI/ML Systems & Integration: Architect and implement automated content generation pipelines leveraging LLMs and generative image models to produce timely, elevated shopping destinations around tentpole sporting events (NFL Season, March Madness, etc.). Own the integration of model outputs into production CX surfaces.

  • Sports Profiles & Personalization Services: Design and build scalable personalization services that activate Customer Sports Profiles across Amazon surfaces - ingesting signals, computing fan affinities, and serving real-time personalized experiences at scale.

  • Event-Driven Infrastructure: Build event-driven systems that detect and respond to real-world sporting events (game days, championships, transfers, drafts) to trigger timely content updates, merchandising changes, and customer notifications.

  • Operational Excellence & Scale: Own the reliability, performance, and scalability of fan experience services

  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring engineers. Influence engineering best practices across the broader organization.

  • Data & Metrics Infrastructure: Build instrumentation, metrics pipelines, and experimentation frameworks to measure feature impact

Requirements

8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent, 8+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
