Job description
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise data pipelines, data quality controls, and data platform solutions. The role will focus on improving data reliability, understanding end-to-end data flows, resolving complex data issues, and delivering trusted datasets to support analytics and reporting., * Develop and optimise complex SQL queries, including performance tuning, advanced joins, and window functions.
- Translate business requirements into reliable, auditable datasets and data products.
- Perform data mining, reconciliation, root cause analysis, and anomaly detection across multiple data sources.
- Map end-to-end data lineage and document system interfaces, dependencies, and ownership.
- Design and implement data quality frameworks, controls, monitoring, alerting, and remediation processes.
- Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, including incremental loads, CDC, backfills, and rerun-safe processing.
- Develop curated data layers, data marts, and warehouse solutions to support analytics and reporting.
- Monitor data platform health, troubleshoot issues, and support incident resolution.
- Collaborate closely with product teams, platform teams, and source-system owners to deliver data improvements.
- Produce clear technical documentation, including data definitions, lineage artefacts, DQ rules, and operational runbooks.
Requirements
- Strong SQL expertise, including query optimisation, performance tuning, complex joins, and window functions.
- Hands-on experience with data warehousing, dimensional modelling, and curated data platforms.
- Proven experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Strong data quality, reconciliation, and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience mapping data flows and end-to-end data lineage.
- Excellent troubleshooting and data platform observability capabilities.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work across multiple teams and drive complex issues through to resolution.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of data platform infrastructure, orchestration, scheduling, and performance optimisation.
- Experience with data governance, stewardship models, and ownership frameworks.
- Understanding of data security, access controls, and audit requirements.
- Experience working within ITIL or structured operational environments.
- Strong workshop facilitation and discovery skills.
