Job description

At Stony Brook Medicine, the Lead Programmer Analyst is a valuable member of our Laboratory Information Technology team. The candidate will support the clinical applications, integrated systems, instrumentation, interfaces, and workflows used by the hospital’s clinical laboratories. The candidate will apply knowledge of clinical laboratory operations to effectively configure, maintain, and optimize laboratory information systems and related technologies. The candidate will work closely with laboratory leadership, laboratory personnel, Hospital IT teams, and vendors to ensure that laboratory applications and integrations meet the needs of the department and the hospital while conforming to applicable operational and regulatory requirements. The candidate will demonstrate superior communication, analytical, and organizational skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.

Duties of a Lead Programmer Analyst - Laboratory IT may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Provides technical and application support for laboratory information systems, integrated applications, instrumentation, desktop integrations, and associated interfaces.
  • Analyzes laboratory workflows and operational requirements and configures, develops, or implements application solutions that meet departmental specifications.
  • Supports system implementations, upgrades, enhancements, and production changes, including requirements gathering, planning, coordination, testing, deployment, and post-implementation validation.
  • Performs application, interface, integration, and regression testing to ensure that system changes function correctly across laboratory and downstream clinical systems.
  • Participates in Hospital IT projects and enterprise initiatives, including electronic medical record upgrades and the implementation of new functionality, while representing laboratory application, integration, workflow, and regulatory requirements.
  • Engages in issue tracking, troubleshooting, escalation, follow-up, and resolution in collaboration with laboratory personnel, internal technical teams, and vendors.
  • Provides application and workflow support to clinical department users, including system training and in-service education.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation, application records, change documentation, and laboratory procedures in accordance with applicable operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides secondary support for laboratory computer hardware, connected devices, and peripheral equipment in coordination with the appropriate technical support teams.
  • Provides on-call support for Laboratory IT applications, integrations, instrumentation, and related technologies on a rotational basis., * All Hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary.
  • This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
  • This function/position may be designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine’s Employee Health Services *

  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen *

  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination .

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biological Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of information technology experience.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an A.A.S. degree with a minimum of 4 years of information technology experience., * Clinical laboratory experience, laboratory-related education, or relevant professional credentials, including NYS clinical laboratory licensure or ASCP certification.
  • Experience supporting, configuring, testing, or upgrading healthcare or laboratory information systems. Experience with Clinisys or Sunquest applications is desirable but not required.
  • Experience with clinical systems, integrations, or related technologies, including laboratory instrumentation, automation, electronic medical record systems, interfaces, voice recognition, or digital imaging.

Benefits & conditions

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $73234 - $89270 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

  • Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4000)
