Job description

We are seeking a senior individual contributor who owns significant areas of Picarro’s cloud software and data platform end to end-from architecture through production operations. This role works in a product-engineering-driven culture, moving quickly from ambiguous problems to working prototypes, using AI coding tools to accelerate delivery, and taking ownership of the reliability of what they build. Responsibilities

  • Design and build core services and features across Picarro’s cloud and data platform, from APIs and data models through the user interface where applicable.
  • Own technical decisions for systems within scope, including architecture, tradeoffs, and long-term maintainability.
  • Use AI-assisted tooling, such as Cursor or similar platforms, as a standard part of the engineering workflow while applying strong judgment about what to trust, verify, and refine.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines that handle sensor- and instrument-generated data at scale, with attention to data quality and provenance.
  • Take ownership of production health for systems built, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on system design, engineering practices, and pragmatic delivery.
  • Partner directly with product managers and domain experts to translate ambiguous requirements into shipped, reliable software., We are the world’s leader in timely, trusted, and actionable data using enhanced optical spectroscopy. Our solutions are used in a wide variety of applications, including natural gas leak detection, ethylene oxide emissions monitoring, semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, atmospheric science, air quality, greenhouse gas measurements, food safety, hydrology, ecology, and more. Our software and hardware are designed and manufactured in Santa Clara, California and are used in over 90 countries worldwide based on over 65 patents related to cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) technology and are unparalleled in their precision, ease of use, and reliability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production systems end to end.
  • Strong full-stack or backend engineering depth, with flexibility across languages such as Python, Go, TypeScript, or similar, and hands-on experience with data-intensive systems.
  • Comfort with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure, as well as CI/CD and modern observability tooling.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants productively in a professional engineering workflow.
  • Track record of taking projects from prototype to production with minimal oversight.
  • Background building software as a core product at a software product company, R&D lab, or technology-first organization, rather than primarily internal IT, retail/e-commerce technology operations, or IT services/consulting environments focused on implementing or customizing third-party software.

Nice to Have

  • Public GitHub or similar portfolio showcasing real project work.
  • Experience with IoT, sensor data pipelines, or time-series data technologies such as TimescaleDB or InfluxDB.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Terraform, or GitOps workflows.
  • Background in a regulated or hardware-adjacent domain.
