Job description

ActioNet is seeking a System Administrator to provide hands-on systems administration and infrastructure support in a secure, classified environment at Yokota Air Base, Japan. This is a highly technical, mission-focused position responsible for installing, configuring, securing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows and Linux systems, networks, applications, and associated infrastructure.

The System Administrator will build and maintain systems from bare metal, manage authentication services, perform backups, monitor security events, troubleshoot hardware and software failures, and ensure systems remain compliant with DoD and Intelligence Community security requirements. The role also supports cybersecurity initiatives, automation, infrastructure-as-code, documentation, system optimization, and distributed infrastructure.

The successful candidate is a hands-on, independent problem solver who can work directly with customers, prioritize competing requirements, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment., Provide hands-on onsite system administration and technical support in a classified environment. Install, configure, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, workstations, network equipment, applications, and related infrastructure. Configure and manage Windows and Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Build and configure systems from bare metal in accordance with approved security baselines and accredited configurations. Configure and manage DoD and Intelligence Community standard authentication services. Configure and troubleshoot IP addressing, subnets, switches, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, and related network services. Perform security monitoring and assist with identifying and responding to potential security incidents. Conduct daily backup operations, file archival, and data purging as required. Create, modify, and delete user accounts in accordance with approved requests and procedures. Perform system performance tuning, hardware upgrades, resource optimization, and lifecycle maintenance. Diagnose and recover from hardware and software failures across multiple sites. Maintain system documentation, configuration records, procedures, and technical guides. Support implementation and documentation of cybersecurity program requirements and security controls. Maintain facility video distribution systems and associated displays. Develop simple automation and scripts using PowerShell, Bash, and Python. Automate installation, configuration, provisioning, and system management using tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, and Chef. Work with technologies such as Kubernetes, Rancher, Grafana, ACAS, and Cloud Security Gateway. Support distributed systems and infrastructure technologies such as Hadoop, HBase/Accumulo, Spark, and Kafka as applicable. Use Agile management and collaboration platforms such as Jira, Confluence, and GitLab. Provide technical guidance and contribute to system documentation and knowledge-sharing materials. Work directly with government customers and other technical stakeholders. Support surge requirements, special projects, break/fix activities, and other mission requirements as assigned.

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience administering, implementing, configuring, operating, and troubleshooting complex computer systems, servers, networks, and electronic IT infrastructure. Strong experience administering Windows and Linux environments. Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, preferably RHEL 7/8 or later. Experience with server-side technologies and networked computing environments. Knowledge of U.S. Government computer networks, security requirements, and classified environments. Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, LDAP, Kickstart, networking, authentication services, and security monitoring. Ability to troubleshoot complex hardware, operating system, application, and network problems. Ability to create basic PowerShell, Bash, or Python scripts. Experience with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or Chef. Understanding of security concepts including SSH, public-key encryption, credentials, certificates, TLS, and data encryption. Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with customers and technical teams. Strong analytical, critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to dynamically prioritize multiple workloads and mission-critical deadlines. Ability to document technical procedures clearly and accurately. Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and systems. Ability to work onsite in a secure facility and support changing mission requirements.
