Job description
- Approximately 50% of the time onsite at corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas.
- Approximately 50% travel to acquired company locations, offices, data centers, and other field sites as required.
- Travel may include short-term onsite assignments, installation and cutover support, troubleshooting, and post-integration stabilization.
Engagement Expectations
- This assignment will be supporting M&A network integration and operations.
- Primarily focused on hands-on operational support, troubleshooting, implementation, site onboarding, and customer assistance.
- Work may include Houston-based support, travel to acquired locations, equipment installation, and scheduled maintenance windows.
- The resource will collaborate closely with network, security, infrastructure, service desk, M&A, and business teams.
Network Field Engineer Responsibilities
- Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, and related network infrastructure.
- Administer and troubleshoot Palo Alto Networks virtual firewalls, including security policies, NAT, VPNs, routing, and related services.
- Support Cisco SD-WAN environments, including controllers, edge devices, application-aware routing, QoS, path selection, and link failover.
- Perform hands-on installation, replacement, staging, and configuration of network, security, and wireless equipment.
- Install, configure, replace, and troubleshoot wireless access points, including connectivity, coverage, and onboarding issues.
- Troubleshoot LAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, DNS/DHCP, routing, switching, and connectivity issues.
- Respond to incidents and service requests through the customer’s help desk or IT service-management process.
- Analyze monitoring alerts, logs, packet captures, device outputs, and configuration changes to identify root cause.
- Execute approved changes, maintenance activities, and after-hours change-window work when required.
- Coordinate with carriers, vendors, field technicians, and internal IT teams to resolve issues.
- Provide clear status updates to internal customers and set appropriate expectations.
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, ticket notes, procedures, and operational documentation.
- Escalate complex or high-impact issues appropriately while continuing to drive resolution.
- Identify recurring issues and recommend practical operational improvements.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on network engineering or network operations experience.
- Strong practical experience with Cisco switching and routing.
- Hands-on experience administering Palo Alto Networks virtual firewalls.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting Cisco SD-WAN environments.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, STP, routing, NAT, ACLs, VPNs, QoS, DHCP, and DNS.
- Experience troubleshooting network issues using CLI tools, logs, packet captures, and monitoring platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to install, rack, cable, stage, configure, and replace network equipment and wireless access points.
- Experience working with ticketing systems, incident management, change control, and service-level expectations.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a technically demanding enterprise environment.
- Willingness to participate in scheduled maintenance windows and occasional after-hours support.
Network Field Engineer Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Palo Alto PCNSA, PCNSE, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience with Cisco SD-WAN, including Cisco vManage, vBond, and vSmart, or comparable Cisco SD-WAN components.
- Experience with Panorama, Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA Center, Cisco ISE, or network monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with BGP, OSPF, IPsec, GRE, wireless networking, access-point deployments, and redundant network designs.
- Experience supporting distributed, multi-site, or field-based organizations.
- Experience with M&A, divestiture, site integration, network consolidation, or post-acquisition transition work.
- Exposure to network automation using Python, Ansible, or APIs.
- Experience coordinating onsite installations and remote field support.
