Job description

Description

SAIC is seeking a Software Solutions Engineer/Integrator to support Space Systems Command’s (SSC) Kronos Family of Systems (FoS) in advancing Operational Command and Control (C2) and Space Battle Management (BM). As our engineer you will integrate new and commercial capabilities with legacy systems while modernizing the BMC3I software ecosystem across architecture, data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and mission applications. The role will mature capabilities from technical assessment and prototyping through production without disrupting critical operations.

This position is based in El Segundo, CA and supports the Horizon program within the Space C2 Program Management Office, working closely with SSC’s BMC3 Program Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the BMC3I software engineering and integration focal point, aligning new development, CSO-selected solutions, and modernization with Programs of Record, legacy systems, architecture, interfaces, data, infrastructure, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate end-to-end solutions to determine how applications, services, data products, APIs, and platforms integrate with or replace legacy components while preserving mission continuity and interoperability.
  • Develop technical integration roadmaps covering modernization increments, legacy dependencies, interface transitions, risks, decision points, entrance/exit criteria, and production transition actions.
  • Support software architecture and design across service boundaries, APIs/interfaces, data flows, cloud/platform services, deployment patterns, and legacy-to-modern data migration and interoperability.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, cybersecurity/DevSecOps teams, testers, Product and Program Managers, acquisition professionals, vendors, operators, and receiving programs to resolve integration issues and transition capabilities into operations.
  • Assess opportunities to refactor, rehost, replatform, replace, or retire legacy components, reduce technical debt, and move toward modular, scalable, secure, and supportable architectures.
  • Coordinate capabilities through assessment, prototyping, development, CI/CD, integration, testing, cybersecurity, deployment, production transition, and sustainment while maintaining configuration, release, risk, and transition traceability.
  • Assess integration readiness across applications, APIs, data, messaging, infrastructure, identity, cybersecurity, performance, resiliency, and mission-system interfaces, including demonstrations or operational evaluations as needed.
  • Apply Agile, DevSecOps, and Software Acquisition Pathway practices to support iterative delivery, automated testing, modernization, and rapid operator feedback.
  • Advise government leadership on architecture, modernization priorities, commercial-solution readiness, legacy transition, integration risks, sequencing, and technical tradeoffs. Support transition planning with receiving Programs of Record and follow-on acquisition activities, addressing architecture/interfaces, infrastructure, cybersecurity/accreditation, sustainment, production, contracting, funding, technical evaluations, SOWs, and transition agreements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 14+ years, Master’s with 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, computer science, systems engineering, architecture, integration, or related DoD mission systems.
  • Strong knowledge of software engineering, architecture, systems integration, APIs, data integration, testing, configuration management, and software lifecycle practices.
  • Experience integrating software into mission or enterprise systems with legacy applications, shared services, data dependencies, external interfaces, and operational constraints.
  • Ability to analyze software at the system-of-systems level and translate mission requirements into practical integration and modernization approaches.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Jira, Confluence, and related collaboration tools.
  • Must have an in-scope security background investigation (T5), adjudicated for SCI eligibility and rolled in the Continuous Vetting program (if applicable).
  • Must be willing to be nominated for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information and Special Access Programs and consent to a polygraph examination (as required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience modernizing legacy DoD software through refactoring, rehosting, re-platforming, cloud migration, API enablement, data migration, service decomposition, or retirement.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containers/Kubernetes, microservices, APIs, event architectures, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, and secure software supply chains.
  • Knowledge of DoD software acquisition, including DoDI 5000.87 and the Software Acquisition Pathway, with experience supporting CSOs, OTAs, rapid prototyping, or similar approaches.
  • Experience transitioning commercial or non-traditional software from prototype into government architectures, production environments, and sustained operations.
  • Experience evaluating technical debt, dependencies, sustainment, performance, resilience, cybersecurity, and lifecycle impacts during modernization.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present architecture, integration, modernization, and technical tradeoffs to engineers and senior leaders.

Why Join the BMC3I Team? BMC3I depends on resilient, interoperable software that can evolve while supporting critical operations. As a Software Solutions Engineer, you will modernize legacy capabilities while maturing commercial and newly developed solutions from assessment through production integration, directly influencing BMC3I architecture, transition, and fielding. Target salary range: $200,001 - $240,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
