Job description
We are seeking a Junior Assistant Engineer to join our Traffic & Road Safety team. This role is ideal for candidates at the early stages of their engineering career, looking to develop their skills in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will support the engineering team by managing enquiries, coordinating responses, and providing general administrative support, while also applying basic technical knowledge to assist with traffic and road safety matters.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Support the team through effective administration and record-keeping of incoming and outgoing enquiries using Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel and Word.
- Communicate with residents, businesses, other stakeholders, and elected members in relation to acknowledging receipt of general traffic enquiries and requests for services.
- Assist with producing technical drawings and output reports for items such as parking/speed surveys and performance for enquiry response deadlines.
- Carry out site visits/surveys to obtain data/information, for example, parking surveys.
- Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
- Work with other Council sections and developers to ensure a joined-up approach to traffic management across the city.
Requirements
- Relevant engineering experience, particularly in Traffic Engineering and Road Safety.
- Comfortable undertaking administrative duties as part of a varied support role.
- Experience in drafting letters, emails, and reports.
- Proficiency in using CAD-based computer programmes to draft drawings and plans.
- Strong understanding of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety principles, including the design and delivery of traffic and road safety measures.
- Ability to design, implement, and manage a structured system for recording, tracking, and reporting incoming and outgoing enquiries.
