Job description
ROLE SUMMARY
FTSE Russell (LSEG) is building the real-time platform that powers global index calculation across equity, fixed income, and multi-asset markets.
We’re looking for a hands-on Lead DevOps Engineer to design, secure and operate the cloud infrastructure that keeps this platform always on - supporting low-latency, real-time workloads at global scale.
This is an individual contributor leadership role, where you’ll define infrastructure architecture, raise operational standards, and ensure resilience, security, and observability across a mission-critical platform.
AI-First Engineering
This team operates with an AI-first approach. We expect hands-on experience with AI development tooling: terminal-based agents, AI-augmented IDEs, and automated workflows. You are ultimately accountable for production quality, security, and correctness. This means owning infrastructure review, security validation, system observability, and operational guardrails.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Design and operate cloud infrastructure on AWS to support low-latency, always-on real-time workloads.
- Own infrastructure as code and platform architecture, ensuring secure, scalable and reproducible environments.
- Embed security and resilience by design, including IAM, network controls, encryption, and failover strategies.
- Build observability and operational excellence, enabling fast detection and resolution of incidents.
- Enable safe, fast delivery through CI/CD and automation, partnering closely with engineering teams.
Tech Stack
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK.
- Cloud: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, SNS, Aurora, VPC, IAM, CloudFront, WAF, and others as required).
- CI/CD: GitLab CI, Terraform, AWS CLI.
- Observability: CloudWatch, Datadog, OpenTelemetry
- Languages: Python, Bash, TypeScript.
- AI Development: Agentic AI tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Strong experience designing and operating cloud-native infrastructure on AWS.
- Deep expertise in infrastructure as code (Terraform) at scale.
- Proven ability to build and run resilient, highly available systems.
- Strong understanding of cloud security principles, with hands-on implementation.
- Experience with observability and incident response in production systems.
- Ability to lead through technical standards and delivery, not just tooling.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting low-latency or real-time systems.
- Exposure to financial services or market data platforms.
- Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Benefits
LSEG offers a range of tailored benefits and support, including healthcare, retirement planning, paid volunteering days and wellbeing initiatives.
