Job description

At Lam, the EH&S Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining environmental, health, and safety programs that support safe and compliant operations across industrial machinery, machining, automation, robotics, and electrical systems. This role partners with engineering, operations, facilities, and regulatory stakeholders to identify hazards, assess risk, implement controls, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, company, and industry requirements. What you’ll do

  • Lead the strategy, development, and execution of high-impact industrial health and safety programs for Lam’s Semi Mechatronics Products (SMP), robotics, and machining operations at the Fremont, California campus, reporting directly to the Fremont Sr. EHS Manager. Build trusted partnerships with SMP and operational leadership to advance a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement mindset. Lead cross-functional safety initiatives with engineering and operations teams to ensure EHS programs are practical, effective, and consistently executed. May directly manage a safety team supporting 24/7 shift operations.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, and site leaders to identify and resolve machine, robotics, machining, electrical, ergonomic, injury prevention, and general safety risks across semi-mechatronics operations and associated lab areas.
  • Ensure sustained compliance with federal, state, and local industrial safety regulations, including effective agency engagement, while supporting environmental compliance requirements tied to semi-mechatronics operations.
  • Evaluate activities, processes, operations, and chemical use to proactively prevent EHS impacts and strengthen operational controls; evaluate automation, robotics, electrical hazards and partner with technical teams to implement effective engineering and administrative controls.
  • Support Lam’s emergency response program and serve as a key EHS point of contact for emergency personnel supporting semi-mechatronics operations.
  • Analyze EHS performance trends, translate insights into measurable objectives, and lead targeted improvements that align safety performance with business priorities.
  • Communicate and escalate EHS incidents clearly and promptly, including injuries, illnesses, and emergency events, while driving updates through root cause determination and corrective and preventive action closure. Provide governance for incident investigations to improve systemic root cause quality, strengthen preventive actions, and reduce recurrence risk.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of relevant EHS, industrial safety, or related operational experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in EHS, science, engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Demonstrated EHS and/or process safety management experience, including at least 5 years in industrial machinery, machining, robotics, or comparable manufacturing environments.
  • Deep technical knowledge of occupational health and safety, with strong expertise in industrial, machine, machining, robotics, and electrical safety.

Preferred qualifications

  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, influence stakeholders, manage priorities, and deliver results.
  • Ability to apply EHS, regulatory, and operational knowledge to business decisions and convert requirements into practical implementation plans.
  • Strong change-management capability across people, equipment, and process changes; skilled at running focused, outcome-driven meetings.
  • Practical expertise with process safety and risk-management tools, including risk assessment, root cause analysis, and HAZOP.
  • Sound judgment to recognize risk, resolve conflict, and escalate misalignment before it affects project success or safety outcomes.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to translate complex technical content into clear, compelling messages for peers, leaders, and cross-functional partners.
