Onsite Role for Principal Engineer Digital Retail Web & App

We are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide senior technical leadership and hands-on engineering expertise across Digital Retail Web and App platforms. This role will lead architecture, system design, technical problem-solving, and engineering excellence for complex, high-impact initiatives. The Principal Engineer will influence technical direction across multiple engineering teams while remaining hands-on with coding, code reviews, technical spikes, proof-of-concepts, and production troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, React/Node.js, Azure, microservices, APIs, distributed systems, and modern observability practices., Architecture & Software Engineering

• Lead architecture and system design for complex digital initiatives across web, mobile, APIs, and backend services.
• Remain hands-on through coding, code reviews, technical spikes, POCs, and solution prototyping.
• Design scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performing digital applications.

Technical Standards & Engineering Excellence

• Define and promote reusable architecture patterns, APIs, frameworks, and engineering standards.
• Establish best practices for code quality, maintainability, testing, security, and deployment.
• Drive consistency and engineering excellence across multiple development teams.

Performance, Reliability & Production Readiness

• Drive application stability, scalability, performance, resiliency, availability, and production readiness.
• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex application and production issues.
• Identify and address technical debt, architectural risks, integration challenges, and scalability bottlenecks.

Observability & Monitoring

• Establish comprehensive application observability using Datadog or similar platforms.
• Implement effective monitoring for application performance, logs, distributed tracing, alerting, availability, and production diagnostics.
• Define KPIs and operational metrics to improve system reliability and customer experience.

Technical Consulting

• Partner with Product, Engineering, UX, Security, Infrastructure, Data, and other stakeholders.
• Translate business and customer requirements into pragmatic and scalable technical solutions.
• Evaluate technology options, architectural trade-offs, dependencies, and risks.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical leadership and influence engineering teams without direct authority.
• Mentor senior engineers, technical leads, and development teams.
• Establish a culture of continuous improvement, engineering quality, and technical innovation.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Significant experience in software engineering, system architecture, and large-scale digital applications.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with React and/or Node.js.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native application design.
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including application architecture, deployment, security, integration, scalability, and resiliency.
• Experience with MongoDB, Redis, or similar modern database and caching technologies.
• Strong experience with Datadog or similar observability and monitoring platforms.
• Deep understanding of scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Strong technical decision-making, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
