Job description

We are seeking a Data Scientist for a hybrid contract opportunity. This role supports production data systems and focuses on SQL-driven analysis, investigation, troubleshooting, Python scripting, and data-processing workloads. The ideal candidate is analytically strong, self-directed, coachable, and able to clearly explain and take ownership of their work., * Use SQL to analyze, investigate, and troubleshoot data issues in production systems.

  • Identify where data issues originate, determine the type of incorrect data, correct issues, and help implement code changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Create Python scripts using existing team templates and tooling.
  • Write and support Spark jobs in a cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with team members through code review and approval processes.
  • Use large language models as productivity tools while retaining ownership of, and the ability to explain, all work produced.
  • Work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required.
  • Strong SQL proficiency, including Presto SQL or Spark SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to use SQL for data analysis, investigation, and troubleshooting, beyond report generation.
  • Scripting-level Python experience.
  • Ability to code and understand the technical decisions behind submitted work.
  • Ability to explain code and analysis line by line and maintain ownership of work produced with AI-assisted tools.
  • Experience or familiarity with artificial intelligence and large language models.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Self-directed, curious, coachable, and willing to receive code-review feedback.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing or supporting Apache Spark jobs.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services.
  • Exposure to data science and machine learning.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Experience with Cassandra, CockroachDB, Lucene, or similar databases and data stores.
  • Experience with Hadoop or HDFS.
  • Experience with Flink.
