Staff Software Engineer, Data Protection

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits, * Develop extensive technical expertise in a broad range of data protection technologies that are deeply relevant to policy compliance (e.g., data annotations, policy enforcement engine, etc.).

• Work with Google infrastructure partners to integrate data protection capabilities to address Google’s data protection needs, timely and proactively.
• Design and build foundational infrastructure components that make adopting standardized data protection capabilities scalable, qualifiable and trackable (e.g., building technical solutions in detecting data protection capabilities in a given infrastructure or product).
• Be able to advance and extend the data protection standard to cover emerging Generative AI capabilities without impeding product area launch velocity.
• Integrate data protection posture signals with Google wide risk evaluation platform, which would allow Google to use a standardized common language for systematic technical responses to regulations and obligations.

Experience owning outcomes and decision making, solving ambiguous problems and influencing stakeholders; deep expertise in domain., * Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience with C++, large-scale distributed systems, and technical infrastructure.
• Experience with Privacy data handling.
• Experience with data governance frameworks and tools.

Preferred qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to drive change, manage conflict, and ensure policy compliance.
