Essential:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
• Strong Java software engineering experience (Java 8 and/or modern Java versions).
• Strong experience with Linux, Shell Scripting and Git.
• Good knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Experience with modern software architectures and technologies, including Spring Boot, microservices, Docker/Podman and Kubernetes.
• Good understanding of software requirements and testing.

• Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with technical and scientific stakeholders, and a good command of English. Desirable:

• Knowledge of Python/Jupyter, CI/CD or GitOps tools (e.g. Jenkins, Harness, ArgoCD), and/or front-end technologies (JavaScript/Angular).
• Experience with large-scale/scientific datasets, scientific processing pipelines or ESA/space missions.

Overview Ariel is the first space mission dedicated to measuring the chemical composition and thermal structures of a large well constructed sample of transiting and eclipsing exoplanets, enabling planetary science far beyond the boundaries of the Solar System. The Ariel science operations center has completed a requirements review and is in the phase of designing and prototyping the software subsystems and understanding how to integrate software from the scientific consortium.
