This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise a team of engineers responsible for the operation, maintenance and resilience of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Working within a live mission-critical environment, you will ensure maximum uptime whilst driving engineering excellence, safety, compliance and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background within critical environments, previous supervisory experience, and ideally hold (or be working towards) High Voltage Authorised Person (HV AP) status.

The Role

As Engineering Supervisor, you will act as the technical lead for the engineering team, coordinating planned and reactive maintenance across critical infrastructure including electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling plant, BMS and associated building services.

Working closely with the Technical Manager, you will oversee engineering activities, specialist contractors and permit systems whilst ensuring all work is carried out safely, compliantly and in line with operational procedures.

You will also play a key role in developing engineers through coaching, mentoring and technical sign-off, helping to maintain the highest engineering standards across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of Data Centre Engineers within a live critical environment.
  • Coordinate planned preventative maintenance, corrective works and specialist contractor activities.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for engineering issues and operational incidents.
  • Maintain 100% service availability across critical building infrastructure.
  • Operate and manage safe systems of work including Permit to Work, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Perform or support High Voltage Authorised Person duties where appropriate.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation including SOPs, EOPs, MOPs and switching schedules.
  • Ensure statutory compliance maintenance and testing is completed to programme.
  • Monitor engineering performance, maintenance delivery and associated costs.
  • Support technical audits, compliance inspections and operational reviews.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
  • Drive a strong safety culture and ensure all engineering activities comply with Health & Safety legislation.
  • Coach, mentor and develop engineers through structured technical training programmes.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and technical competency assessments of new engineers.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical reports where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering operations.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical capability with proven leadership within mission-critical environments.

You will have:

  • Previous experience working within Data Centres or other critical environments.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience within engineering maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of critical electrical infrastructure including:
  • UPS systems
  • Standby generators
  • HV/LV electrical distribution
  • Critical cooling systems
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Experience managing Permit to Work systems, RAMS and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams during both routine operations and high-pressure incidents.
