Job description

Location: Manchester (Hybrid - 3 days office / 2 days home, flexible)

Our client is a specialist Financial Services organization with a global footprint and a growing presence in Manchester. They are seeking an IT Risk Manager to support the organisation’s IT and Ops Risk Management Programme.

This newly created position offers the chance to work in a high-profile role, driving best practice across IT & Operations within a global financial services organization. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, risk teams, and technology leads in the UK and internationally to embed a strong risk culture, develop metrics and reporting, and influence strategic decisions.

The Opportunity

This is a rare chance to join at the very start of a function’s journey in the UK. You’ll act as the first line of defense for IT & Operations risk, working in partnership with the global risk team based in the US. The role combines strategic influence with hands-on delivery, giving you the scope to design and implement governance processes, reporting frameworks, and risk management practices that will set the standard going forward.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering first-line risk assessments, profiling, scenario analysis, and reporting for IT & Operations.
  • Building and implementing risk metrics, reporting processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Partnering with the three lines of defence, internal audit, and other risk functions to align strategies.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor on IT & Operational risk to business leaders and technology teams.
  • Engaging stakeholders at all levels to drive risk awareness and adoption of best practices.
  • Supporting the creation of education and training materials to embed a risk-aware culture.
  • Providing input into the development of a roadmap for IT & Operations risk into 2026.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience in IT & Operations risk within financial services (banking/insurance ideal).
  • Strong understanding of risk metrics, governance frameworks, and risk management methodologies.
  • Experience working across all three lines of defence.
  • Proven track record in building risk reporting frameworks and implementing controls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant risk or audit certifications (e.g., CISA, CISM, CISSP, CRISC) desirable but not essential.

Why Apply?

  • Be part of a new function, shaping its future and influencing strategic direction.
  • Work closely with a global team while owning the UK remit.
  • Hybrid flexibility with a central Manchester office and occasional London travel.
  • Competitive salary up to £76K with strong benefits.
  • Career growth potential - role can evolve based on your strengths and ambitions.
