Recruitment Industry Leader and Director for Permanent Recruitment

DevOps Engineer Hybrid | £85,000 + Benefits

A leading specialist (re)insurer is seeking a DevOps Engineer with a development background to join their dynamic and forward-thinking technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of DevOps within development teams, champion best practices, and drive a culture of automation and efficiency across the software delivery lifecycle. You will be helping them implement a strong CI/CD process for a fully automated release process.

The Company

Operating within the Lloyd’s and UK insurance markets, our client is a data-driven insurer that combines intelligent automation with deep industry expertise. They work in an agile, fast-paced environment, delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges. Their technology team functions like a startup within an established business, offering autonomy, flexibility, and a strong emphasis on collaboration.

The Role

As a DevOps Engineer, you will embed within development teams, ensuring smooth CI/CD processes, automating software deployments, and optimising cloud-based application delivery. You will bring deep expertise in Java or Node / React development using containerisation and take ownership of DevOps initiatives within engineering teams. This is a hands-on role where you will influence the DevOps culture, introduce best-in-class tooling, and enhance cloud-native development practices. This would not be a platform engineering role so you would not be suitable unless you have formerly been a developer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement DevSecOps strategies within development teams.
  • Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines for Java or Node / React applications.
  • Experience with SonarQube or similar
  • Work closely with developers to enhance build automation, release management, and deployment strategies.
  • Optimise observability, logging, and monitoring within development environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve build, deployment, and performance issues.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong hands-on experience in DevOps and CI/CD pipeline automation (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions preferred).
  • Software development background in Python Java or React (Node).
  • Strong understanding of Azure cloud services, networking, and security best practices.
  • Experience working in agile, fast-paced environments.
  • Exposure to GitHub migration (desirable but not essential).

What’s on Offer?

  • Competitive salary benchmarked against the market.
  • 25 days annual leave with the option to purchase additional days.
  • Discretionary bonus scheme.
  • Salary sacrifice benefits.
  • Access to professional qualifications and study support.
  • Employee assistance programme.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a development-focused DevOps Engineer to work in a modern, agile business where technology is at the heart of everything they do.
