Job description

  • Develop, maintain, and improve the performance of our crossing systems, including Instinet BlockMatch MTF and CBX crossing applications.
  • Contribute to the vision and technical direction of our common Core trading systems.
  • Work with business stakeholders to elicit and analyse requirements for new and existing crossing applications.
  • Collaborate with senior architects to design software for a business-critical trading system.
  • Improve performance and latency across our crossing systems using performance engineering best practices.
  • Own the full software lifecycle from design and implementation through to production.
  • Implement solutions in line with our software standards and support delivery to QA and UAT stakeholders.
  • Work with deployment and Change Management functions to integrate changes into production.
  • Participate in peer review of colleagues software to strengthen quality across the group.
  • Provide timely 2nd level support for trading system software in production, including UK/US market hours and occasional weekend or holiday coverage.
  • Produce technical documentation and How-Tos to support cross-training.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of equities trading systems, preferably in crossing/matching engines.
  • Proficiency in FIX protocol trading workflows from the venue/exchange perspective.
  • Experience developing high-volume, low-latency trading systems in Java, including performance running, profiling, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of performance engineering methods and techniques.
  • Background in source code version control systems such as SVN and GIT.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum, microservices, distributed systems, and messaging.
  • Strong core Java skills, with Perl or Python.
  • Good knowledge of SQL, Linux, and networking skills.
  • Experience in the financial services or trading technology environment is preferred.
