Job description

Administers database utilities, monitors the relationships between database users and applications, and maintains the organization’s databases across multiple platforms and computing environments. Applies understanding of relational database concepts and query languages in order to design required summary or aggregation tables to support analyses. Collaborates with technology/infrastructure staff to identify data relationships and functional requirements. Analyzes and resolves semi-complex issues related to information flow and content. Maintains database support tools, database tables and dictionaries and recovery and back-up procedures. Performs data modeling studies and develops detailed data models. Maintains data model and entity relationship diagrams. Designs, develops and implements database applications. Analyzes and determines informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements and data output and reporting capabilities. Defines logical attributes and inter- relationships and designs data structures to accommodate database production, storage, maintenance and accessibility. Tests designed applications utilizing database management software or general programming software. Installs, implements and supports systems within the user base.

SCHEDULE

  • Mon - Fri 8:00am - 4:30pm, * Sets up new databases and configures the database management system to meet the requirements of the organization, including hardware, storage, and software configurations. Applies security patches, service packs, and updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Analyzes queries and indexing strategies to improve database performance and reduce query times. Tracks CPU, memory, and disk usage to ensure the database is operating efficiently and makes adjustments as necessary. Identifies and resolves issues causing slow performance or hindering database operations. Works in collaboration with developers and business analysts to design database structures to support business requirements and application performance. Uses data modeling techniques to create and maintain a logical and physical design of the database.
  • Ensures data is consistent across all systems and there is no corruption or loss of integrity. Creates rules and constraints within the database to ensure data quality and consistency, in collaboration with team and leadership. Implements automated tools to monitor database performance, availability, and health, alerting to potential issues before they escalate. Performs routine maintenance tasks, such as rebuilding indexes, updating statistics, and clearing logs, to maintain optimal database performance. Reviews database logs regularly to identify and address potential issues, such as failed backups or unusual query patterns.
  • Creates and maintains a comprehensive backup strategy, including regular backups, off-site storage, and redundancy. Restores data in the event of corruption, hardware failure, or other data loss incidents. Tests the organization’s disaster recovery plans to ensure they work as expected and data can be recovered within acceptable time frames. Creates and maintains detailed documentation for all database procedures, configurations, and policies.
  • Provides assistance to development teams in optimizing database queries, designing schemas, and integrating applications with the database. Mentors lower-level staff and provides training and guidance on best practices. Participates in on-call rotations to support database-related incidents and emergencies outside of regular business hours, as needed.
  • Ensures the database systems comply with relevant regulations and standards. Performs database audits by providing necessary documentation and implementing audit recommendations. Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all databases, including versions, configurations, and usage, as applicable. Administers the migration of data from one environment to another, such as from on-premises to cloud or from one database management system to another. Oversees upgrades of databases to newer versions, ensuring compatibility and minimal disruption to services, as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Benefits & conditions

$33.94 - $50.87

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
