Full Stack Developer

Participates in the design, development, coding, testing, and debugging of new software features and enhancements to existing systems. This role works closely with engineering managers, senior developers, and cross-functional partners to support learner, faculty, and internal operational experiences across Courseroom, Canvas integrations, internally designed faculty applications, and platform capabilities.

The Software Developer will contribute to full stack application development with a stronger emphasis on backend services, Python development, APIs, data workflows, and system integrations. This role will also support frontend development when needed, helping deliver reliable, maintainable, secure, and user-friendly solutions while continuing to grow technical depth across the full stack.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Contribute to Courseroom, Faculty Action Center, and platform initiatives under the guidance of senior engineers and engineering managers.

· Develop, test, and support backend-focused applications and services using Python while contributing to frontend functionality when needed.

· Assist with building and maintaining APIs, integrations, data workflows, and automation that support learner experiences, Canvas extensions, and internal platform capabilities.

· Contribute to frontend development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as Nuxt, Vue, or React when full stack delivery requires user-facing functionality.

· Work closely with engineering managers and senior developers to understand requirements, break down assigned work, and deliver features iteratively.

· Build and consume APIs, including REST/JSON services, with attention to reliability, readability, documentation, and maintainability.

· Write database queries, support data troubleshooting, and contribute to database changes under the guidance of senior team members.

· Write clear, maintainable code and participate in unit testing, code reviews, and code quality practices.

· Participate in solution development, code reviews, and team discussions while learning established architecture patterns and engineering practices.

· Troubleshoot application issues across backend services, integrations, data, and frontend components with support from senior engineers as needed.

· Apply secure coding, accessibility, performance, and maintainability practices as part of day-to-day development work.

· Review application logs, metrics, and user-impact indicators to help identify and resolve issues.

· Use GitLab for source control, branching, merging, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows.

· Stay current with backend engineering, Python development, cloud-based application development, frontend frameworks, and integration patterns.

· Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and development practices.

· Familiarity with Agile or Scrum team practices., · 2-4 years of experience developing applications using Python.

· Experience with Python web frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.

· Experience building, maintaining, or consuming REST APIs.

· Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts and software development fundamentals.

· Experience working with SQL and relational databases.

· Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational database platforms.

· Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

· Exposure to frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or Nuxt.

· Familiarity with Git-based source control workflows.

· Interest in backend development with the ability and willingness to contribute across the full stack.

· Experience working within Agile development teams. · Experience deploying applications to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud platforms.

· Familiarity with Docker and containerized applications.

· Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitLab.

· Experience integrating with third-party APIs.

· Experience with asynchronous processing, background jobs, message queues, or event-driven workflows.

· Canvas or LMS experience.

· Educational technology experience.

· Java and Spring Framework experience.

· Oracle database exposure.

· Understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG.

· Exposure to Kubernetes or Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.

· Experience with observability tools, application metrics, logging, and production troubleshooting
