Job description

We are seeking an experienced Emissions Lab Hardware Engineer / Product Engineer to support emissions testing operations in Chelsea, MI. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, calibrating, and supporting emissions testing systems including analytical benches, secondary sampling systems, and chassis dynamometers.

This is a hands-on engineering role working closely with technicians in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Candidates must have strong troubleshooting abilities, emissions testing knowledge, and experience supporting regulated automotive testing systems.

Schedule

  • Flexible hours required based on testing schedules
  • Occasional weekend overtime may be required, * Lead troubleshooting activities for emissions analytical benches, secondary sampling systems, and chassis dynamometers
  • Diagnose hardware, software, and system-level issues before, during, and after emissions testing
  • Support setup, execution, and monitoring of emissions tests
  • Perform calibrations, quality checks, audits, and verification activities on emissions measurement equipment
  • Analyze emissions data and test results to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards
  • Investigate abnormal test behavior and identify root causes
  • Support operation and troubleshooting of heated lines, pumps, filters, valves, flow control devices, and sample handling systems
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians performing repairs and maintenance
  • Collaborate with technicians to verify corrective actions and restore equipment functionality
  • Document calibrations, corrective actions, audits, and test results in compliance with ISO 17025 standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to laboratory operations, equipment reliability, and data quality
  • Maintain compliance with safety requirements and testing procedures, * Burke Porter chassis dynamometers

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical documentation?, * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field OR equivalent hands-on experience

  • Experience troubleshooting emissions analytical benches and secondary sampling systems
  • Experience working with chassis dynamometers
  • Strong understanding of emissions testing principles, quality control, and measurement systems
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently
  • Experience analyzing emissions and test data
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and testing software
  • Ability to work effectively in a unionized testing or laboratory environment
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation diagrams, Experience with:
  • FTP, WLTP, US06, and RDE emissions testing
  • EPA, CARB, and EU emissions regulations
  • Secondary dilution tunnels, PM/PN sampling, and bag sampling systems
  • Automotive or powertrain testing environments
  • Automation, instrumentation, controls, and hardware integration
  • Analyzer maintenance, diagnostics, calibration, drives, and motor controls

Experience with the following equipment/systems is highly preferred:

  • Horiba CVS
  • Horiba MEXA-ONE
