Job description

Pat from Everforth here back from a long vacation. Reaching out because I have a new opening for one of my clients for an AWS Data Engineer. This position is hybrid in McLean, VA or Memphis, TN, 3 times a week. I can pay around 65-75/hr for this, 12 month contract to start. This is an AWS specific role, so Azure focus will most likely be rejected. In addition this is not an infrastructure role but more of a Data heavy role, so the more AWS data products you have exposure with the better. This is primarily a business as usual role, making sure everything is running smoothly, making enhancements, and putting out fires as opposed to anew project initiatives. As also why AI assistant Riley will be reaching out, but if this is in your wheelhouse feel free too reach out to me at for a direct line, * Design and document AWS cloud database architectures that support performance, scalability, availability, security, governance, and cost optimization requirements.

  • Lead the modernization and migration of legacy on-premises databases and data platforms to AWS cloud services.
  • Architect and optimize data solutions using AWS services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon Athena, AWS Database Migration Service, and related monitoring and security services.
  • Define database patterns for transactional, analytical, integration, and reporting, including OLTP, OLAP, and data lake workloads.
  • Develop architecture standards, reference patterns, design decision records, runbooks, deployment playbooks, and operational best practices.
  • Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, security, governance, resiliency, and compliance requirements are met.
  • Develop migration plans, proof-of-concepts, cutover strategies, rollback plans, validation approaches, and post-migration optimization activities.
  • Partner with security and governance teams to implement encryption, IAM, network isolation, auditing, logging, data retention, access controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Drive performance tuning and optimization through data modeling, indexing, partitioning, query tuning, workload management, capacity planning, and observability practices.
  • Implement and promote automation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, schema migration practices, and repeatable deployment patterns for database-backed solutions.
  • Develop dashboards and operational metrics for database health, cost, usage, SLAs, reliability, and platform performance.
  • Collaborate with application, integration, analytics, and reporting teams to translate business requirements into practical database and data-platform solutions.
  • Review and provide recommendations on cloud architecture designs developed by vendors and solution partners.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to support cloud data platform modernization and AI-enabled business initiatives.
