Job description

As a Senior Data Engineer and BI Specialist, you will be embedded within the data and analytics team of one of our key clients in Belgium, designing and delivering integrated, governed data solutions that support portfolio planning and resource forecasting at enterprise scale.

This is not a pure data engineering role. You will act as a bridge between business, data and IT teams, working in a complex, fragmented data landscape where your ability to challenge assumptions, resolve inconsistencies and translate ambiguous requirements into structured solutions will be as important as your technical expertise.

Data Engineering and Architecture

You will design and build Layer 3 data models in Snowflake, develop scalable and governed ETL/ELT pipelines, and integrate disparate data sources (demand, supply, actuals, allocation and portfolio layers) into a single unified data model. Ensuring data consistency, traceability and alignment across systems is a core expectation. The goal is to diagnose and resolve cross-system data inconsistencies, not simply build pipelines.

Data Integration and Transformation

You will build and maintain Tableau Prep flows and transformation pipelines, translate complex business logic into reusable and maintainable data products, and support the migration from legacy data flows to a Snowflake-driven architecture. The expectation is to simplify and rationalize fragmented data flows rather than replicate existing complexity.

Portfolio and Resource Domain

You will bring a strong understanding of portfolio planning, resource management and financial planning concepts, and connect actuals versus forecasts, demand versus supply, and FTE allocation and cost structures into coherent, business-relevant data models. The data you produce must reflect true business logic, not just technical structure.

Systems and Data Source Knowledge

You will work with Planisware for portfolio and project data, Beacon and SAP for financial data, and the broader Snowflake ecosystem. You are expected to understand where data issues originate across the end-to-end flow and to challenge upstream definitions when needed.

BI and Analytics Delivery

You will develop advanced dashboards and analytical use cases in Tableau (Desktop and Prep) and Power BI, building scalable data models and delivering executive-ready insights. Reporting must be grounded in trusted, reconciled data rather than conflicting sources.

Requirements Gathering and Documentation

You will translate business questions into data requirements and data model structures, document data flows, transformations and business rules, and act as a structured translator between business and IT. You are comfortable working with incomplete or evolving requirements and bring structure to ambiguous problem statements.

AI and Advanced Analytics

You have a solid understanding of practical AI and ML use cases in forecasting and planning, and can identify and shape actionable AI opportunities such as forecasting improvements, trend detection and scenario building. The focus is on pragmatic, implementable use cases rather than theoretical concepts., * Embedded within a leading global pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Belgium on an impactful procurement mission

Requirements

On the technical side, you have advanced Snowflake expertise covering data modeling and performance optimization, expert-level SQL, solid experience with ETL/ELT frameworks, and advanced skills in both Tableau (Desktop and Prep) and Power BI.

On the functional side, you have a strong understanding of portfolio planning, resource forecasting and FTE-based financial planning, along with proven experience integrating cross-domain enterprise data.

Beyond technical skills, what will make you successful in this role is your ability to communicate clearly with business, data and IT stakeholders, navigate a fragmented and complex data landscape, challenge data design and upstream assumptions, and deliver end-to-end ownership in an environment where requirements are often incomplete or evolving.

Our offer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration or a related discipline

  • Proven buying experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical or life sciences sector

  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills

  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously while meeting deadlines

  • Solid analytical skills to interpret market data, conduct spend analysis and support category strategy

  • Proficient in SAP or equivalent ERP systems

  • Comfortable using AI tools (LLM, AI-enabled SRM) in a procurement context ; experience or strong interest in AI-driven procurement is a plus

  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment (compliance, healthcare laws, ethical practices)

  • Fluent in both English and Dutch (mandatory)

Benefits & conditions

  • Benefiting from a competitive salary package including several extra-legal benefits
