Job description

Medicine Data & AI & Systems, as part of global Biostatistics and Data Sciences (gBDS), is focused on shaping the data, technology, and AI foundations that enable faster, better, and more reliable decisions across Medicine. The function is designed to create a connected and trusted foundation that brings together data, platforms, standards, and innovation capabilities to unlock value at scale. Defines and governs the Medicine standards and metadata layer, incl. metadata standards, lineage expectations, business glossary rules, and governance model across Medicine and in alignment with Enterprise standards and metadata. This role is the internal decision-maker for what metadata must exist, who is accountable for it, and how metadata supports trust, discoverability, compliance, and cross-domain reuse. In addition, the role defines Medicine-level standardized definitions, standard maintenance processes, metadata consistency principles, and metadata-driven processing requirements. This position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach. This position is part time eligible with 70 %. Tasks & responsibilities

  • In this role, you define enterprise-wide metadata standards for Medicine, ensuring that business terms, technical metadata, ownership structures, as well as lifecycle and classification aspects are clearly established and consistently applied.
  • Furthermore, you design and implement governance processes that cover the creation, maintenance, review, and change control of metadata and standards across the Medicine domain.
  • At the same time, you establish a federated operating model, enabling data-owning functions to actively contribute to and co-own Medicine-level metadata and standards.
  • By ensuring a harmonized approach, you drive consistency of metadata practices across initiatives and domains while guiding MDR implementation and collaborating closely with external vendors.
  • With a strong focus on data value, you ensure that metadata supports discoverability, traceability, trustworthiness, and audit readiness throughout the data lifecycle.
  • In addition, you align data semantics, structure, and flows, thereby creating a coherent and integrated data landscape across all Medicine domains.
  • You also ensure the adoption and consistent application of enterprise data standards, embedding them into key initiatives and operational processes.
  • Finally, you translate and consolidate requirements from strategic initiatives into a scalable, reusable data backbone and act as a central authority to resolve cross-domain conflicts related to data definitions, standards, and productization.

Requirements

  • Master of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field, or a comparable qualification
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and delivering strategic, enterprise-wide initiatives
  • Deep expertise in metadata management, data governance, stewardship, and standards within complex environments
  • Solid understanding of data catalog and MDR concepts, including traceability and auditability requirements
  • Proven ability to design and operationalize pragmatic governance models in federated structures
  • Strong track record in stakeholder management, influencing decision-making, and translating policies into actionable frameworks
  • Experience in assessing external vendor solutions and constructively challenging implementation approaches
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, passion for innovation and continuous learning, and commitment to quality, compliance, and data-driven decision-making. Fluency in written and spoken English
