Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join their growing data team, helping to build and develop a modern Microsoft Fabric data platform.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with the latest Microsoft data technologies, delivering scalable data pipelines, lakehouse solutions and analytics-ready datasets that support reporting and business intelligence.

The role sits within a People Development function, but we’re primarily looking for strong technical data engineering experience. Previous exposure to learning, skills or HR data would be beneficial, but is not essential.

What youll be doing -

  • Designing and building scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric.
  • Developing and maintaining Lakehouse solutions, SQL Endpoints, Pipelines, Dataflows and Notebooks within Microsoft Fabric.
  • Integrating data from multiple enterprise systems into a modern data platform.
  • Developing robust ELT processes and reusable transformation logic using SQL, Python, M and DAX.
  • Creating analytics-ready data models and semantic datasets to support Power BI reporting.
  • Ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, lineage and performance.
  • Working closely with Product Owners, Data Consultants and technical teams to deliver reliable data solutions.
  • Supporting the development of AI-ready datasets and advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Applying data engineering best practices including testing, documentation, monitoring and continuous improvement., This is an excellent opportunity for a Data Engineer with strong Microsoft Fabric experience to join a forward-thinking organisation, helping shape modern data capabilities and enabling better insight through trusted, high-quality data.

Requirements

  • Extensive practical experience using Microsoft Fabric in an enterprise environment is essential, including Fabric Pipelines, Lakehouses, Dataflows, Notebooks and SQL Endpoints.
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer within a cloud-based data environment.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with experience developing scalable data engineering solutions.
  • Experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating data from multiple enterprise systems.
  • Strong understanding of Lakehouse architecture and modern data modelling techniques.
  • Experience developing analytics-ready datasets, semantic models and solutions to support Power BI reporting.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality and engineering best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams.

Desirable experience-

  • Experience preparing data for AI, machine learning or advanced analytics use cases.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry.
  • Exposure to learning, skills, HR or competency data.
  • Experience with Power Platform technologies.

Benefits & conditions

Data Engineer - £500-£550 per day - Inside IR35 - Primarily remote with occasional travel in the south of England - 6 months initial contract.
