Job description

A hands-on Cloud Architect is required to support a strategic cloud transformation and application modernisation programme within a leading financial services organisation.

The role will define and implement enterprise-scale Azure and Google Cloud architectures, supporting legacy application migration, banking platform modernisation and the adoption of secure cloud-native services. The successful contractor will combine strong architectural thinking with the practical delivery experience needed to guide engineering teams through complex transformation initiatives.

Requirements

Extensive experience designing enterprise-scale Azure and GCP environments
Strong knowledge of Azure Landing Zones
Experience with AKS, Azure App Services, Functions and API Management
Strong understanding of Azure networking, monitoring and Entra ID
Experience with GKE, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, BigQuery and Cloud Storage
Strong GCP networking, IAM, logging and monitoring knowledge
Expertise in cloud-native, microservices, API-led and event-driven architectures
Strong containerisation and Kubernetes experience
Infrastructure-as-Code expertise using Terraform
Knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps and modern platform engineering practices
Experience designing hybrid-cloud and multi-cloud integrations
Strong understanding of cloud security, data governance and architecture governance
Experience delivering cloud transformations within banking, financial services or another regulated environment
Understanding of operational resilience, risk management and financial-services outsourcing requirements
Experience influencing senior stakeholders and guiding technical delivery teams
Databricks, data-platform, AI or analytics workload experience would be advantageous
Relevant Azure or GCP architecture certifications would be beneficial

Benefits & conditions

£650-£700 per day
Inside IR35
Initial 6-month contract with potential extension
Hybrid working with three days per week on-site in London
