Job description

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data team and play an important role in ensuring our data is accessible, reliable and fit for purpose. You’ll work closely with the IT Development team and colleagues across the business to develop data solutions, improve data processes and provide meaningful insights to support business decisions.

As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining data solutions, supporting the data lake and ensuring data is available and reliable across the business.

You will:

  • Work closely with the IT Development team to develop and maintain data lake functionality.
  • Design and develop robust data models.
  • Build, optimise and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Develop automated data solutions.
  • Gather requirements for new data sources and data acquisition.
  • Work with teams across the business to understand their data needs.
  • Provide meaningful insights and data to support business decision-making.
  • Use tools such as Power BI to present data and analytical findings.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.
  • Optimise SQL queries and data pipelines.
  • Document processes to ensure a clear audit trail and accessible information.
  • Support the ongoing improvement of data processes and infrastructure.

Requirements

We’re looking for someone with strong Python and SQL experience, alongside a good understanding of relational databases and version control. Essential experience:

  • Strong experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience using Python.
  • Good understanding of database design and data modelling.
  • Experience developing, optimising and maintaining ETL processes.
  • Experience using Git/version control, including branching, merging and pull requests.
  • Understanding of cloud-based infrastructure, ideally AWS.
  • Experience working with data and producing meaningful insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience with AWS CDK and Terraform.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD.
  • Experience working with data lakes.
  • Experience creating data visualisations using Power BI.
  • Experience within the energy, EV or infrastructure sector.

You’ll be a self-starter who enjoys solving problems and finding better ways of working. You’ll need to be organised, comfortable working to deadlines and able to communicate effectively with different teams across the business.

You’ll also need to be able to travel to our Leeds office (LS1 5EN) once a month, so ideally you’ll be based within approximately an hour of Leeds.

  • Degree-level education or equivalent relevant experience.
