Job description
Develop enterprise Power BI solutions from discovery through adoption. Responsibilities include semantic modeling, advanced DAX and Power Query development, dashboard UX/UI design, governance, performance optimization, stakeholder workshops, client presentations, usability testing, adoption tracking, proposal support, and mentoring junior team members. The summary above was generated by AI, We are seeking a Senior Power BI Developer who is as comfortable architecting a semantic model as they are designing an intuitive, executive-ready dashboard. This is not a purely technical build role - it’s a hybrid position for someone who thinks like a data engineer, a UX designer, and a management consultant all at once.
You’ll work directly with enterprise clients across financial services, retail, CPG, and construction to translate ambiguous business questions into governed, performant, and genuinely usable Power BI solutions. You will own the full lifecycle: discovery workshops, data modeling, visual design, stakeholder presentations, and post-launch adoption., Technical Development
- Design and build scalable Power BI data models (star schema, composite models, tabular models) optimized for performance at enterprise scale
- Write advanced DAX (time intelligence, complex measures, calculation groups) and optimize Power Query (M) transformations
- Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), workspace governance, and deployment pipelines (Dev/Test/Prod) using Power BI Service and Azure DevOps
- Configure and manage gateways, dataflows, incremental refresh, and integration with Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake, or Dataiku data sources
- Build paginated reports, embedded analytics (Power BI Embedded), and integrations with the broader Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps)
- Establish and enforce data governance, naming conventions, and semantic model documentation standards
- Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks using Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio, and Tabular Editor
UX/UI & Dashboard Design
- Apply core data visualization and information design principles - visual hierarchy, pre-attentive attributes, color theory, and appropriate chart selection - to every report
- Design dashboards with a clear narrative flow: guiding users from headline KPIs to root-cause detail through intentional layout and drill paths
- Champion accessibility standards (color contrast, screen-reader-friendly tooltips, keyboard navigation) in all deliverables
- Create and maintain a design system: consistent theming (JSON theme files), typography, spacing, and branded templates across client deliverables
- Balance information density with clarity - avoiding “chart clutter” while still surfacing the depth power users need
- Conduct usability reviews of dashboards, iterating based on real user behavior rather than assumptions
User Journey & Requirements
- Map end-to-end user journeys for each persona (executive, analyst, operational user) to determine what each audience needs to see, when, and in what format
- Lead discovery workshops to elicit requirements, translating vague asks (“we want more visibility into X”) into concrete KPIs, data sources, and success metrics
- Build wireframes/mockups before development to validate direction with stakeholders and reduce rework
- Facilitate iterative feedback loops (UAT sessions, office hours) to refine dashboards post-launch and drive adoption
- Define and track adoption and usage metrics to demonstrate ROI and identify underused reports needing redesign or retirement
Consulting & Client Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to client stakeholders - from data analysts to C-suite executives - translating technical concepts into business value
- Lead or support proposal development, SOWs, and estimation for BI engagements
- Present findings and design rationale confidently in client-facing settings, defending design decisions with data-visualization best practices
- Mentor junior developers and analysts on both technical standards and design principles
- Contribute to internal accelerators, templates, and reusable frameworks to improve delivery speed across engagements, Design, develop, and maintain BI dashboards and reports using Power BI and Oracle Analytics Server. Build data models and ETL processes, optimize SQL queries, gather reporting requirements, tune performance, and troubleshoot issues while communicating with stakeholders to support decision-making.
