The Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable data pipelines and architectures that enable efficient data processing and analysis within the institution. This position works closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality, accessibility, and usability, facilitating data-driven decision-making across various departments. Job Summary
The Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable data architectures, pipelines, and integration solutions that support the institution’s data ecosystem. This role ensures the efficient collection, transformation, storage, and accessibility of data from multiple sources to enable reporting, analytics, integrations, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision making within governance frameworks. The Data Engineer collaborates closely with data scientists, analysts, application teams, and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, reliability, governance, and performance across enterprise data platforms.
This position is at the level of Principal Professional, emphasizing enterprise-scale architecture, governance, and deep technical expertise that informs and enables institutional data and platform strategy set by senior leadership. Job Duty 1 - Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines to facilitate the efficient collection, storage, and processing of large datasets.
Job Duty 2 - Implement data integration solutions that combine data from multiple sources to create a unified view for analysis and reporting.
Job Duty 3 - Optimize data storage and retrieval processes to improve performance and reduce latency in data access.
Job Duty 4 - Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, pipelines, and workflows to support knowledge sharing and continuity.
Job Duty 5 - Monitor data systems for performance and reliability, troubleshooting any issues that arise to minimize disruptions.
Job Duty 6 - Ensure compliance with data governance policies and best practices to protect sensitive information and maintain data integrity.
Job Duty 7 - Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data engineering technologies to recommend innovative solutions for data management.
Job Duty 8 - Train and support staff on data tools and technologies to enhance the institution’s overall data literacy and analytical capabilities.
Job Duty 9 - Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality, accessibility, and usability for various analytical tasks.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required., Eight or more years of relevant experience., Master’s Degree in a related discipline or equivalent., Progressive experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data solutions, data warehouses, data lakes, or analytics platforms. Experience serving as a subject matter expert advising technology leadership on data platform strategy, architecture decisions, and tool selection. Experience implementing data integration, automation, and data quality solutions within complex organizational environments. Experience with cloud environments such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. Experience with cloud platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake Experience supporting higher education, research, healthcare, government, or large enterprise environments. Relevant industry certifications related to cloud data engineering or data architecture Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a relates discipline or equivalent Proposed Salary
$120,278 - $150,000, depending on experience and preferred skills Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities, This job requires broad knowledge of IT systems management, infrastructure and architectural design and integration and related components and applications. Expertise is required in IT service delivery methodology and techniques, industry practices and campus policies and procedures. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Advanced knowledge of data engineering principles, data architecture, and data integration methodologies. Ability to evaluate emerging data and AI platform technologies and translate technical trade-offs into strategic recommendations for institutional leadership. Proficiency in SQL and modern data engineering technologies, including ETL/ELT frameworks and orchestration tools. Experience working with cloud-based data platforms and large-scale data environments. Strong understanding of data modeling, metadata management, data quality, and data governance practices. Knowledge of data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements. Knowledge of modern analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence data platforms. Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and implement effective solutions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
