Job description

The IBM iSeries/RPG IV Application Developer and Consultant will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining applications primarily using RPG IV and CL programming within an IBM i environment. This role involves working with legacy and modern enterprise systems, integrating various interfaces, and collaborating directly with business users to deliver technical solutions that support financial, payroll, student account, authentication, and payment-related systems. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain RPG IV/RPGLE applications within an ILE environment.
  • Maintain legacy RPG III applications and support their continued operation.
  • Design, develop, test, and resolve defects in enterprise applications.
  • Implement and support XML, FTP, and API-based integrations.
  • Work with ARCAD change management tools to control production deployments.
  • Collaborate with university departments and business users to gather and clarify requirements.
  • Participate in solution design sessions and translate operational needs into technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with university personnel and external vendors for development and deployment activities.
  • Assist with production implementations and participate in occasional evening or weekend go-live events.
  • Develop, test, document, and support application changes and enhancements., * Consultants should have more than entry-level experience and be capable of working independently without a dedicated business analyst.
  • May be required to participate in occasional evening or weekend go-live activities.
  • Must be able to coordinate with multiple stakeholders including university personnel and vendors.

Scheduling:

  • Work schedule may include occasional evening or weekend shifts for go-live events.
  • Flexible staffing levels based on project demand, typically involving one to two resources during normal periods and up to four during peak demand.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with RPG IV/RPGLE development in an ILE environment.
  • Proficiency in CL programming.
  • Experience maintaining legacy RPG III applications.
  • Familiarity with IBM i environments on IBM Power Systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application integrations including XML, FTP, and APIs.
  • Ability to work directly with business users to gather requirements and deliver solutions.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience with PHP and Java development.
  • Familiarity with ARCAD change management and controlled production deployment.
  • Experience with financial, payroll, student account, authentication, or payment-related systems.
  • Consulting skills including requirement gathering, solution design, and client interaction.
