Job description
Our client is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to support a high-priority batch modernization initiative. The team is migrating a legacy batch processing platform to a modern architecture leveraging Ruby on Rails 8 and the Temporal workflow platform. This project was originally planned as a multi-year effort but has been accelerated significantly, creating an urgent need for a senior engineer who can immediately contribute and work independently. The developer will be responsible for converting legacy batch jobs into modern Rails-based workflows, validating outputs against existing systems, developing automated integration tests, and ensuring production-quality implementations. The ideal candidate combines expert-level Ruby on Rails development skills with strong backend engineering experience, database expertise, and an understanding of large-scale batch processing environments. Requirements
problem-solving ability, ownership, and the capacity to quickly ramp up in a well-documented codebase while helping the team deliver an aggressive modernization roadmap., Must-Have Requirements

8+ years of backend software development experience with strong Ruby on Rails expertise

Hands-on experience building applications in Ruby on Rails 8 (or latest Rails versions with knowledge of Rails 8 enhancements)

Strong experience with MySQL database design, querying, optimization, and data validation

Experience developing and maintaining batch processing systems, ETL workflows, scheduled jobs, or data processing pipelines

Proficiency with RSpec and automated testing frameworks

Experience working with AWS S3 for file storage, retrieval, and artifact management

Ability to independently, modernize, and refactor legacy applications into modern architectures

Understanding of HIPAA, PII, and sensitive data handling requirements - Experience with Temporal or similar durable workflow orchestration platforms

Background in healthcare, life sciences, insurance, or other regulated industries handling sensitive data

Exposure to Go or Python

Experience using developer productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot and/or modern AI-assisted development practices

Experience leading technical modernization initiatives with minimal oversight
