Job description
The Information Technology Services Development and Operations Web Services Analyst (ITS-DOWSA) is responsible for the development, deployment, monitoring, and operational support of the District’s web services, web applications, and DevOps pipelines. The DOWSA supports public facing and internal websites, web and District based application hosting environments, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes. The position ensures the reliability, performance, security, and accessibility of web and application services in alignment with District goals and in compliance with industry, federal, state, and local standards. Oversees the maintenance and development of public-facing and internal websites, application hosting environments, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes. The DOWSA provides technical and operational support for public-facing and internal websites, application hosting environments, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes. Works collaboratively with Enterprise Services Team withing the Infrastructure Operations Division (ITS-DIO), ITS User Services Division, ITS Academic Support Team, Communications Department, Data Management Department, and Academic stakeholders to support District technology initiatives. The position is directly supervised by the ITS Manager of Enterprise Systems, ITS Assistant Director, Director of ITS, or designee and may participate in cross organizational and cross functional project teams as organizational and cross-functional project teams as assigned. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and support the District’s public facing and internal websites, including content management systems and hosting environments.
- Support and maintain DevOps workflows including CI/CD pipelines, source control repositories, and deployment automation.
- Assist with deployment, configuration, and monitoring of web applications across on premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Monitor system availability, performance, and logs to identify and resolve issues affecting web and application services.
- Implement security best practices for web platforms, applications, and deployment pipelines under established standards and guidance.
- Maintain technical documentation for web services, deployment processes, and system configurations.
- Assist in managing domains, DNS records, SSL certificates, related web infrastructure components, App containers, virtual machines and clusters.
- Provide technical support for website updates, enhancements, outages, and application deployment issues.
- Collaborate with ITS teams to ensure integration between web services, enterprise systems, and infrastructure platforms.
- Support website accessibility compliance and usability standards.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to District staff related to website publishing and application deployment processes., * Analyze technical issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions within established standards and procedures.
- Apply technical knowledge to resolve non-routine problems affecting web and application services.
- Serve as a technical resource to assist in resolving academic and administrative end user issues related to web platforms.
- May assist with technical evaluations, testing, and implementation support for vendor provided web services and tools.
DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING:
- Work is performed with some independence under general supervision.
- Exercise judgment within established guidelines, procedures, and technical standards.
- Escalate complex or high-risk issues to appropriate ITS management as required
Requirements
- Associates degree (preferred in computer science or similar field) and 2 to 4 years related experience or equivalent combination desired.
- Experience supporting websites, web applications, and content management systems.
- Experience with JavaScript, VB, .Net, cloud hosting platforms, virtualized or containerized environments preferred.
- Working knowledge of web technologies, scripting, Python, Bash Scripting, Node.js, and application deployment practices.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, PowerBi, Power Apps, and Azure Enterprise Services.
- Working knowledge of DevOps concepts including CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and automation tools.
- Familiarity with web security, authentication, and access controls.
· Familiarity with Linux, Apache, Azure, vSphere, Docker, Kubernetes, Hyper-V, Windows containers preferred.
- Familiarity with MySQL, MariaDB, Microsoft SQL, Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Ability to troubleshoot issues across application, web, and infrastructure layers.
- Strong documentation, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a production environment., * Communicate with District staff, ITS team members, vendors, and external partners as needed.
- Demonstrate a professional, positive, and cooperative demeanor.
- Clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrate discretion and sensitivity when handling confidential information.
- Fluency in English required; ability to speak other languages such as Spanish helpful.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work may require moderate physical activity related to equipment setup or troubleshooting, ability to lift 50 pounds on a non-routine basis.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to support critical web and application services.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the city of Bridgeport and to District managed locations.
