We are seeking Cloud and DevOps Engineers to help us build innovative solutions for challenges in national defense and healthcare. Our group is looking for talented individuals who can work as part of a team to assist with the basic day to day functions of implementation, maintenance, and lifecycle of software and hardware for our multitude of highly impactful projects. You will combine infrastructure engineering expertise with the latest DevOps technology to support projects end-to-end, collaborating with fellow team members to facilitate impactful solutions.

As a Cloud and DevOps Engineer, you will…

  • Support a wide variety of R&D projects and systems to ensure critical needs are met by providing DevOps expertise, as well as architect and build system solutions on cloud or on-prem infrastructure
  • Work with sponsors and end users in defense, intelligence, or healthcare organizations to understand their operations and identify requirements
  • Stay abreast of industry and practices standards to ensure software and hardware maintainability
  • Explore promising new research areas and maintain/gain technical edge required for projects. Share approaches and methods
  • Establish relationships across organizational boundaries to increase collaboration.

Requirements

  • Possess a B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Cybersecurity, or other relevant technical field.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of experience developing software using Python, C#, Java, or similar software tools
  • Possess hands-on experience deploying systems to AWS, GKE, or Azure
  • Possess hands-on experience in any of the following technologies: Docker, Kubernetes, hypervisor software (Vmware ESXi, Proxmox, etc.), CI/CD software (Terraform, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Ansible, etc.), Powershell, Windows / Linux Server administration
  • Possess experience working successfully within a team environment
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Hold an active Top Secret level clearance, and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:

  • Possess a Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mathematics or relevant technical field
  • Possess experience scaling a microservices app or converting a monolithic app to micro services
  • Possess experience with LLM deployment and management software like vLLM, Llama.cpp, LiteLLM, Triton, etc.
  • Possess experience with data storage systems like MinIO or similar
  • Possess familiarity with MLOps and workflow orchestration tech stacks like Prefect, MLFlow, AirFlow, etc.
  • Possess experience in any of the following technologies:

  • VMware Ecosystem (ESXi, vSAN)
  • Networking Certs: CCNA, CCSP, CEH, CISM, CISSP, or others
  • Specific Kubernetes distribution stacks (Rancher/RKE2, OpenShift, vCluster)

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
