Job description

Talan is seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer to join a high-performing global team supporting the eTrading environment for a leading investment banking client.

Operating within a Production & Application Support function, this role sits at the heart of front-office trading technology, ensuring the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of critical electronic trading platforms.

You will work in a complex, low-latency environment supporting high-volume trading flows, interacting closely with trading desks, development teams, and infrastructure specialists across a global follow-the-sun support model., * Oversee day-to-day production support activities, including monitoring, incident management, and capacity planning

  • Act as a key point of contact for issue resolution, liaising with traders, developers, infrastructure teams, and external vendors
  • Take ownership of assigned applications and platforms, developing deep technical expertise
  • Support and enhance electronic trading systems, including pricing engines, algorithmic trading components, and STP workflows
  • Manage connectivity to external trading venues (e.g. exchanges, ECNs, market data providers)
  • Contribute to system design improvements, focusing on resilience, scalability, and performance optimisation
  • Coordinate release and change management activities, ensuring robust deployment processes
  • Participate in a shift-based rota (7am-6pm coverage) and on-call support, including occasional weekend work
  • Collaborate with global teams across Europe, North America, and Asia within a follow-the-sun support model
  • Continuously improve documentation, monitoring, and operational processes

Requirements

  • Strong experience in Application Support within electronic trading or capital markets environments
  • Solid expertise across Linux and Windows server environments
  • Experienced withinWintel Engineering
  • Good understanding of market connectivity, networking, and infrastructure (firewalls, multicast, latency considerations)
  • Ability to analyse system performance across CPU, memory, network, and messaging layers
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Python, Shell, PowerShell, SQL)
  • Experience with CI/CD and deployment tools (e.g. Jenkins, Ansible, Artifactory)
  • Familiarity with application stacks involving Java, C++, or .NET
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to operate in a front-office facing role
  • Proven ability to manage incidents and deliver improvements in high-pressure environments
  • Experience with ION trading platforms or similar vendor systems
  • Knowledge of multicast messaging and low-latency trading architectures
  • Monitoring tools such as Geneos or Zabbix
  • Experience with Splunk or similar log analytics platforms
