Job description

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop advanced software solutions supporting precision mining and robotics applications. The engineer will design, develop, integrate, and test software features running on embedded electronic control systems, including applications involving hyperspectral analysis and machine data management. This position combines hands-on development in C/C++, Python, Linux, ROS, and OpenCV/ML with system integration, troubleshooting, validation, and cloud technologies. The engineer will work within a global Agile development team alongside machine, systems, software, and validation engineers., * Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software features from requirements through production deployment.

  • Develop precision-mining functionality using Embedded C/C++, Python, Linux, and GitHub.
  • Perform system requirements decomposition, software design, development, code/design reviews, integration, and testing.
  • Troubleshoot software and system issues through technical triage and root-cause investigation.
  • Develop validation plans and support testing of embedded electronic control systems.
  • Work with ROS1/ROS2, OpenCV, machine-learning technologies, CAN/Ethernet communications, and AWS services.
  • Collaborate with a global team of machine, systems, software, and validation engineers in an Agile/Sprint environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant industry experience. Candidates with a master’s degree and approximately 1-2 years of industry experience may also be considered.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, and Python.
  • Proficiency with ROS1 or ROS2.
  • Proficiency with OpenCV and/or machine-learning development.
  • Experience developing embedded software in a Linux environment.
  • Experience with GitHub and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with communication/data links such as CAN and Ethernet.
  • Experience with AWS services, including S3, EC2, and Batch.
  • Ability to read technical schematics and component data sheets.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Experience developing software for embedded electronic controls, industrial systems, mining equipment, mobile machines, or similar applications.
  • Understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and delivery.
  • Experience working with globally distributed and culturally diverse engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to write technical information clearly and concisely.

Benefits & conditions

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Embedded Software Engineer 2 - Precision Mining & Robotics. The work will be done onsite full time in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $57/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay). The position follows a Monday-Friday, first-shift schedule, approximately 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, and may require up to 25% domestic travel.
