As a member of the IT Operations Management Team, you are responsible for managing, developing, and leading a team of employees. Your role includes leading the specific functional responsibilities of your teams, which involves overseeing team performance and deliverables for multiple IT Operations practices. However, your role as a leader within our organization requires more than the management of resources and day-to-day operations. As a steward of the company, you are charged with the development and execution of your teamâs strategic vision and plan and ensuring that your teamâs actions align with the larger goals of the company and the Travel Technology Department.
Costco Travel seeks an IT Operations Manager to manage our DevOps and Build Engineering teams. This will be a leadership role responsible for managing practice teams in a diverse Tech Ops organization. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader and technologist who is passionate and employs a broad range of experience. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to advocate for systemic change to improve delivery efficiency and quality of our services and technology solutions.
As the primary conduit between your employees and upper leadership, your role in communicating and modeling the values and guiding principles of our company culture is of vital importance. ADMINISTRATION: Ensures proper department coverage (writing schedule and break aids if needed). Understands department budget, able to research and explain budget variances. MANAGING PERFORMANCE: Coaches and mentorsâ employees to provide support and guidance. Has regular open and honest conversations with employees to discuss work performance and career development. Identifies learning opportunities to strengthen employee knowledge, skill and ability. COMMUNICATION: Regularly shares information with employees via meetings and one-on-one conversations. Successfully navigates difficult conversations with employees, members, and suppliers. Listens, expresses empathy and adapts to get points across. Addresses issues immediately to ensure a timely resolution and to avoid escalating the situation. Consistently demonstrates business knowledge during interactions with senior management. SELF-MANAGEMENT: Demonstrates sound judgment, taking a partner when necessary. Ability to maintain self-control in the face of hostility or provocation or in intense, hectic situations. INCLUSION: Encourages different approaches and ideas to work and to accomplish goals. Seeks employee input. Takes the time to get to know or reach out to candidates who show potential that may not come forward on their own. COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY: Takes measures to ensure employee and member information is kept confidential and Hires, motivates, mentors, and grows a team of quality professionals in a fast-paced development organization. Establishes, measures, and reports department performance against a comprehensive set of quality metrics. Works with other departments in Technology to implement and maintain a Costco Travel Capability Model. Defines, owns, and continuously improves the capabilities owned by the managerâs teams and org. Participates in defining the strategic direction and technology roadmap for Costco Travelâs infrastructure and platforms. Works with senior engineers and architects to define and implement standards and best practices for managing Tech Ops infrastructure and platform services. Drives quality into Costco Travel infrastructure and enterprise services through continuous improvement of operational process and methodology. This is a full-time management/leadership position (45+ hours per week). Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location.

Requirements
5+ yearsâ experience with delivering technology solutions. 3+ years in a supervisory or technical leadership role focused on technology operations. 3+ years with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery automation implementations. 3+ yearsâ experience leading teams supporting infrastructure and enterprise services such as SQL Server, Enterprise Monitoring solutions, security and compliance remediation. 3+ yearsâ experience with highly automated virtualized infrastructure. 3+ yearsâ experience with fulfilling compliance and security requirements. Experience in working with complex modern SaaS platforms and applications. Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion). HIPAA Training and Supervisors Orientation (within 30 days of hire); Leadership Development 101 (within one year); Costco Pay Policies (within 90 days of promotion).
Recommended: Previous experience managing DevOps Engineers is preferred. Minimum - Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree (BSCS) preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Workspace applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.
