Job description

The Web Designer/Developer works within the University Marketing and Public Relations team to develop and create digital marketing and advertising materials, websites, e-mail, and social and mobile content to support University marketing efforts. This position brings value to the University by consistently presenting a positive, professional Belmont brand image across all digital platforms, and safeguards that brand image through consistent and accurate execution of assigned projects.

  • Consult with internal clients to conceptualize and produce digital marketing materials and content that effectively and creatively support the University’s brand and marketing objectives. Project examples include, but are not limited to, the design and development of responsive web sites; responsive HTML e-mails; static/animated online ads; interactive media guides; WordPress templates; conversion of static designs to HTML; mobile app design; among others.
  • Update and optimize HTML and CSS to enhance functionality and deliver compliant HTML code for all University web sites.
  • Utilize website analytics and usability testing to improve information architecture and user experience for all University web sites.
  • Update and manage flagship website content using CMS (Content Management System) as assigned., Work to meet established production schedules and deadlines as assigned by the University Marketing project management team. Proactively communicate with internal clients on job status, and follow project through to completion to the ultimate satisfaction of internal clients.
  • Draft or suggest web copy to fill content gaps, and review and edit copy submitted by campus partners for university style and brand consistency.
  • Safeguard Belmont’s brand identity and messaging through consistent and accurate execution within all mediums.
  • Follow production through to completion as well as satisfactory acceptance by internal clients.
  • As needed, serve as backup to Web Administrator for all University web sites.
  • Understand Belmont’s marketing objectives and work collaboratively with team members to meet institutional goals. Recognize, value and work within the Office of University Marketing and Public Relations’ commitment to team effort and team approach.

Requirements

  • Must be comfortable using generative AI tools, such as Copilot, to help draft or refine web copy when useful.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Must understand the value of teamwork and feel comfortable working within a team environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • An ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Required Education Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field required.

Required Experience

  • Experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML, Wordpress, Adobe Creative Suite and designing and coding responsive websites required.
  • Experience with HTML 5, MySQL, CSS 3, designing responsive e-mails and knowledge of multiple content management systems and/or Hannon Hill’s Cascade Server preferred.
  • 1-3 years web design/development experience preferred.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
