Job description
In this vital role you will develop and apply innovative data science, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to support Clinical Development and advance therapies for patients. You will act in support of the Data Science function within the Center for Design & Analysis, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven insights that align with study objectives and enable informed decision-making. You will continuously expand your expertise in emerging AI and ML technologies, including generative AI, while applying your growing knowledge of pharmaceutical research and clinical development to solve complex business and scientific challenges.
- Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply mathematical, statistical and data science, ML and AI models, algorithms and software tools to support Clinical Development.
- Align assigned analyses with study objectives, clearly explaining the context, rationale, and recommended guidance.
- Develop and contribute well-documented workflows, reusable components, and analytical solutions using established best practices.
- Continuously build expertise in emerging AI frameworks and algorithms, including generative AI and machine learning, and apply them to classical business programs such as planning, forecasting, and operational excellence to support stronger decision-making.
- Adopt Domain knowledge i.e. Pharma, clinical data development during the first few months of hiring
- Build and apply stochastic process, probability, statistical and forecasting models for modeling clinical trial operations that help clinical and operational decisions.
- Use standard analytics or ML and AI methods with guidance and produce reliable inputs and outputs.
- Work with clinical operations databases and other relevant data sources; prepare, clean, validate and document analysis-ready datasets.
- Develop, test and maintain reproducible analytical code and model components using statistical and programming software such as R, Python and SQL.
- Translate modelling outputs into practical insights for trial planning, enrolment/screening forecasts, operational monitoring and scenario evaluation.

Collaborate with UK Data Science colleagues and cross-functional partners in clinical development, operations, programming, statistics and digital/data platform teams Accountabilities:
- Deliver high-quality modelling, forecasting and analytical outputs that support clinical trial operational decisions.
- Ensure data handling, modelling, testing, documentation and communication are reproducible, transparent and aligned with quality and compliance expectations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of modelling capabilities within the UK Data Science team.
- Take ownership of agreed deliverables while escalating risks, assumptions and limitations appropriately
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or other scientific or technical discipline
- Internship or early career experience in the pharma or high-tech industry
- Strong capability in R and/or Python; familiarity with SQL, data manipulation, reproducible workflows, version control, testing and documentation
- Experience with probability and/or stochastic process models, simulation, forecasting, advanced statistics or machine learning and AI methods
